Bears defeat LSUA Generals JV Team at Goldsby

The Baton Rouge Bears and the LSUA Generals JV team met this afternoon at Pete Goldsby Field for a single nine inning ballgame. The Bears would tally 10 hits on their way to the 12-7 victory.

The Generals would get on the board first, in the top of the second inning, when they would plate one run. The Bears would respond, in the bottom of the second, with a run of their own to tie the game at one. Isaac Leger would lead off with a single to left field and advance to second on a pass ball. Matthew Reinholtz would draw a walk. Max Veillon would hit single to centerfield to load the bases with Bears. Braden Corkern would hit a sac fly scoring Leger to tie the game at one.

In the bottom of the third inning, Collin Dupre would lead off with a double to right field, then Dillion Bird would be hit by a pitch and Jackson Martin would draw a walk to load the bases. Isaac Leger would hit a double down the left field line clearing the bases. Leger would then steal third. Max Veillon would single to left field scoring Leger from third.  The Bears would plate four runs on three hits to take a 5-1 lead over the Generals.

The Generals would add a run and inch closer via s solo lead off home run by Albert, in the top of the fourth inning. The Bears still led the Generals 5-2. The Generals would tact on two more runs but they still trailed 5-4 via a two run homer to right field by Trahan, in the top of the fifth inning.

The Bears would increase their lead to 10-4 when they would plate five runs, in the bottom of the seventh inning.  Aidan Machado would lead off with a walk and he would steal second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Jackson Martin would be hit by a hit. Machado would score on a wild pitch and Martin would advance to third.  Jake Brouillette would draw a walk. Lane Patin would hit a double to left field driving in Martin. Max Veillon would draw a walk to load the bases. Seth Fontenot would pinch hit for Braden Corkern and he would reach by being hit by a pitch.  Brouillette would score on a wild pitch. Ryan Richard would hit a sac fly to left field scoring Patin.Tanner Hornback would hit an infield single to the Generals shortstop scoring Veillon. The Bears would take advantage of some inconsistent General's pitching and some timely hitting to score five runs in the inning.

The Generals would take advantage of back to back errors by the Bears to scratch across one run, in the top of the eighth inning. The Bears would add some insurance runs, in the bottom of the eighth inning, to increase their lead to 12-5. Lane Patin would single, advance to second on a wild pitch and score on a Barrett Hebert single up the middle.  Brady Neyland would draw a walk. Tanner Hornback would hit a double to left field driving in Hebert and moving Neyland to third.  The Bears would score two runs on three hits.

The Generals would not go down without a fight as they would scratch two runs, in the top of the ninth inning, via a two run homer by Valery but it was not enough as the Bears would defeat the Generals 12-7.

Briggs Ardoin started on the mound for the Bears and earned the victory. Ardoin pitched 3.0 innings allowing 1 run on 3 hits while walking 1 and striking out 2. Ethan Quebodeaux (1.0 inning), Colin McDonald (1.0 inning), Braden McLin (2.0 innings), and Cole Veronie (2.0 innings) pitched in relief of the Bears. Ebanks started on the mound of the Generals and took the loss.

 

Baton Rouge outhit LSUA 10 to 5. The Bears committed two errors in the ballgame.

Bears Game Highlights:

Tanner Hornback went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs.

Collin Dupre went 1 for 3 with 1 run.

Dillion Bird had 1 run.

Aidan Machado had 1 run and 2 BB.

Jackson Martin had 2 runs and 1 BB.

Isaac Leger went 2 for 2 with 2 runs, 1 BB and 3 RBIs.

Jake Brouillette had 1 BB and 1 run.

Lane Patin went 2 for 2 with 2 Runs.

Matthew Reinholtz had 1 BB.

Max Veillon went 2 for 3 with 1 BB, 1 run and 1 RBI.

Braden Corkern had 1 RBI.

Ryan Richard had 1 RBI.

 

With the victory the Bears improved to 8-31 on the season.

The Bears will start a three game conference series with the Nunez Pelicans on Friday April 5 at 6 pm at Pete Goldsby Field. The series will conclude Saturday April 6 with a doubleheader starting at 2 pm.
