Bears lose game two of series with Bengals on the Cajun Prairie

The Baton Rouge Bears and the LSUE Bengals met this evening, on the Cajun Prairie, in game two of this weekend series. The Bengals would even the series with an 8-4 victory.

The Bears would get on the board first, with a run in the first innings. Nick Carriere would double to left field, steal third and score on a throwing error by the Bengals catcher for the Bears first run of the game. The Bengals would take the lead, in the second inning, when K Myers would hit a two-run homer to left field. The Bears would tie the game at two, in the fourth inning. Nick Carriere would lead off with a single to left field, Braxton Gallet would follow with an infield single and Gage Breithaupt would be hit to load the bases for the Bears. Tristan Frederick would hit a single driving in Carriere to tie the ball game at two. The Bears would tact on two more runs, in the fourth inning, to take a 4-2 lead over the Bengals. William Dunn would be hit by a pitch with the bases loaded walking in a run for the Bears. Jacob Dunn would follow with a single scoring Breithaupt. The Bengals would respond and tie the game at four, in the bottom of the fourth, with two runs. The Bengals would take advantage of some inconsistent Bears' pitching and some defensive miscues by the Bears to plate three runs, in the sixth inning, to take a 7-4 lead over the Bears. The Bengals would add an insurance run,in the seventh inning, to take a 8-4 lead over the Bears. The Bears would go down in order in the eighth and ninth innings thus securing the victory for the Bengals;8-4.

Gavin Green started on the mound for the Bears and took the loss. Gavin pitched five and two-thirds innings, allowing 7 runs on 8 hits while striking out 3. Case Roark, Mason Long, Luke Evans and Slade Zeppuhar pitched in relief for the Bears. Vienne started on the mound for the Bengals. He pitched five innings allowing 4 runs on 6 hits while striking out 8. Jackson Rodriguez earned the victory for the Bengals. He pitched four scoreless innings in relief for the Bengals.

Nick Carriere went 2 for 3 with 2 runs

Braxton Gallet went 1 for 3 with 1 run

Tristan Frederick went 2 for 3 with 1 RBI

William Dunn had 1 RBI and 1 BB

Jacob Dunn went 1 for 2 with 1 RBI

Slade Zeppuhar pitched a scoreless inning in relief only needing 10 pitches to strike out the three batters he faced.

 

With the victory LSUE improves to 23-6, while Baton Rouge falls to 18-21 on the season.

 

The series will shift back to the Capital City tomorrow Sunday March 27 to conclude this weekend series. First pitch between the LSUE Bengals and the Baton Rouge Bears will be 3 pm at Pete Goldsby Field.
