Bears drop a pair of games to #1 LSUE Bengals

The Baton Rouge Bears and the #1 LSUE Bengals met this afternoon on the Cajun Prairie to start their eight game season series. Today's games between the two ball clubs were a grind, in which, neither team held a comfortable advantage till late in the ball games. In both games, the LSUE Bengals would rally late to secure the victories and the sweep of the Baton Rouge Bears. The Bengals would win game one 4-1 and game two 7-2.

Game One

A late rally by the Bengals down the Bears in game one;4-1.

The Bears would score first with a run in the second inning. Tristian Frederick would hit a double to right field and score on a double by Braxton Gallet for the Bears first and only run of the game.  The Bengals would take the lead with two runs, in the third inning. The Bengals would add an insurance run in the fifth and sixth innings to secure the 4 to 1 game one victory. The Bears had their chances but could not produce that timely hit to scratch across runs.

Patrick Vienne pitched a complete game for the Bengals to earn the victory. He pitched seven innings allowing 1 run on 8 hits while striking out 6. Ethan Prescott started on the mound for the Bears and took the loss. Ethan pitched four innings allowing 2 runs on 2 hits while striking out 2 and walking 5. Caden Akana pitched in relief for the Bears.

Baton Rouge outhit LSUE 8 to 4. 

Game One Bears Highlights

Lane Hutchinson went 1 for 3

Gage Breithaupt went 1 for 3

Nick Carriere went 2 for 3

Tristan Frederick went 2 for 3 with 1 run

Braxton Gallet went 1 for 2 with 1 RBI

Jacob Dunn went 1 for 3

Game Two

A late inning rally by the Bengals propels them to the 7-2 victory over the Bears in game two.

The Bears would get on the board first with a run in the first. The Bears took advantage of some inconsistent Bengals pitching to scratch across a run. Blaise Foote would lead off the game with a single to right field. Ethan Menard would lay down a sac bunt to move Foote over to second. Elliot Hebert would walk. Nick Carriere would be hit by a pitch to load the bases. Tristan Frederick would also be hit by a pitch walking home the Bears first run of the game. For most of the game it was a pitching duel between Bear's pitcher Teddy Webb and the Bengal's pitcher Moody. Both pitchers would hold the other team scoreless for five innings. The Bengals would take the lead, in the seventh, with two runs: 2-1. The Bears would fight and tie the game at two, in the eighth inning, when Tristan Frederick would score on a Lane Hutchinson single and a Bengals throwing error. The Bengals would erupt for five runs, in the bottom of the eighth, to break the game open and secure the 7-2 game two victory.

Teddy Webb started on the mound for the Bears and took the loss. Teddy pitched seven and one-thirds innings allowing 5 runs on 6 hits while striking out 2. Sean Burkhead pitched in relief for the Bears.

LSUE outhit Baton Rouge 8 to 4. The Bengals committed 2 errors compared to 1 for the Bears.

Game Two Bears Highlights

Blaise Foote went 2 for 4 with 1 BB and 1 run

Tristan Frederick had 1 RBI 

Lane Hutchinson went 1 for 4

Jacob Dunn went 1 for 4

 

With the pair of victories, the LSUE Bengals improve to 22-5, while the Baton Rouge Bears fall to 17-20.

The Bears will be back in action this Friday March 25 when they start a three-game home, away, home series with the LSUE Bengals. Friday's game will be at 6 pm at Pete Goldsby Field. Saturday March 26 the series shifts to Eunice for a 6 pm game at Bengals Stadium. The weekend series will conclude with a 3 pm match up at Pete Goldsby Field on Sunday March 27.
