Bears and Bobcats split the day in Ellisville

The Baton Rouge Bears and the Jones College Bobcats met this afternoon to start a four game away and home series. The first two games of the series took place in Ellisville, Mississippi at Jones College this afternoon. The next two games will be played in Baton Rouge on Wednesday March 9. Jones College would rally late in game one to earn the 4-2 victory. Baton Rouge would hold off a late rally by Jones to win the nightcap 4 to 3.

Game One

The Bears would take advantage of some defensive miscues by the Bobcats to take the early lead but a late rally by the Bobcats would lead them to a 4-2 game one victory.

The Bears would score first with a run, in the first, off two defensive errors by the Bobcats. Trey Webb and Ethan Menard would both reach on back-to-back errors by the Bobcats. Blaise Foote would single driving in Webb for the Bears first run of the ball game. For the next four innings, neither ball club could get anything going at the plate.  It was a good ole fashion pitching duel between the Bear's Teddy Webb and the Bobcat's K. Keeton. The Bears would break through, in the sixth inning, with a run to take a 2-0 lead. The Bears would score when the Bobcats would load the bases with a walk, hit by pitch and another walk.  The Bobcats would walk another Bear to drive in a run. Jones College would get on the board and retake the lead, in the bottom of the six, with 3 runs. D. Booth would account for 2 of the 3 runs with a two-run homer to right field.  After six, the Bobcats led 3-2.  Jones would add an insurance run, in the bottom of the eighth inning, to secure the 4-2 comeback game one victory.

Teddy Webb started on the mound for the Bears and earned the loss.  Teddy pitched seven innings allowing 3 runs on 7 hits while striking out 7. Case Roark pitched in relief for the Bears.

Game One Bears Highlights:

Blaise Foote went 2 for 4

Lane Hutchinson went 1 for 5

Tristan Frederick went 1 for 2

Nick Carriere went 1 for 2 with 2 BB and 1 run

Britt Jordan went 1 for 1 with 1 BB

 

Game Two:

In game two, the Baton Rouge Bears would comeback and hold off a late rally by the Bobcats to earn the 4-3 victory.

Jones College would get on the board first with an RBI single by G. Cendenning to take the early lead, in the second inning. The Bears would tie the game with an RBI single from Trey Webb to left field. Jones would retake the lead, in the bottom of the third, via a solo homer from D. Booth. The Bears would again take advantage of some defensive miscues by the Bobcats, in the fourth inning, to plate 2 runs to take a 3-2 lead. In the fourth inning, the Bears would start the inning with back-to-back walks by Blaise Foote and Alex Guilbeau. Tristan Frederick would hit a bunt single, which the Bobcats would misplay, and the Bears would score two runs. The Bears would scratch across another run, in the sixth inning, when Nick Carriere, who was hit by a pitch, would score when the Bobcats would mishandle a Lane Hutchinson 's bunt. The Bobcats would not go away quietly as they would score a run, in the bottom of the seventh, and strand the tying run at third.  The Bears comeback to earn the 4-3 nightcap victory over the Bobcats.

Drew Blanchard pitched the Bears to a complete game victory. Drew pitched seven innings allowing 3 runs on 7 hits while striking out 4. Colby Tubre took the loss for the Bobcats. He pitched four and two-thirds innings allowing 3 runs on 5 hits while striking out 4.

Both teams scattered 7 hits and both teams committed 2 errors in the ball game.

 

Game Two Bears Highlights:

Trey Webb went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI

Tristan Frederick went 1 for 3

Jacob Dunn went 1 for 3

Braden Keen went 2 for 3

Lane Hutchinson went 1 for 3 with 1 run

 

With the split Baton Rouge improves to 13-14, while Jones College improves to 11-3 on the season.

 

The Bears will travel down I-49 on Monday March 7 to take on the LSUA Generals in a 3:30 contest at Generals Field in Alexandria, Louisiana.
