Bears drop series opener to Galveston College

The Baton Rouge Bears traveled to Galveston today to start a three game weekend series with the Galveston College Whitecaps. Tonight's game was under the lights at Bernard Davis Stadium. The Baton Rouge Bears struggled tonight to contain the Galveston College Whitecaps as they fall in the series opener 10-2.  

Galveston College would get on the board first with two runs, in the first inning, to take the early lead. Baton Rouge would respond with a run, in the second inning. Braxton Gallet would lead off the inning and be hit by a pitch and then Gage Breithaupt would single to right field, moving Gallet to third. Alex Guilbeau would single to left field scoring Gallet. After two innings, the Whitecaps led 2-1. The Whitecaps would tact on three more runs, in the third inning, to take a 5-1 lead. Galveston would take advantage of some inconsistent pitching and an error, in the fourth inning, by the Bears to plate three more runs. After four innings, the Whitecaps led 8-1. Galveston would add to their lead with a one in the fifth inning,9-1. The Bears would get on the board again, in the sixth inning, with a solo homer by Alex Guilbeau. After six innings, Galveston led 9-2. The Whitecaps would add a run, in the eighth inning, to seal the series opening 10-2 victory.

Carlos Marquez earned the victory for the Whitecaps. He pitched three innings allowing 1 run on 5 hits while striking out 4.Gavin Green earned the loss for the Bears. Gavin pitched three and two-thirds innings allowing 8 runs on 7 hits while striking out 5. Case Roark and Grant Landry pitched in relief for the Bears.

With the victory, the Whitecaps improve to 3-5, while the Bears fall to 2-7 on the season.

Galveston outhit Baton Rouge 13 to 9. Baton Rouge committed one error in the ball game.

Mason Long went 1 for 1

Jonas LeBourgeois went 1 for 1

These two ball clubs will conclude this weekend series with a doubleheader starting at 12 pm at Bernard Davis Stadium in Galveston, Texas.
