Bears Baseball out slug Bossier Parish Cavs

The series finale between the Bears and the Cavs was a slugfest with Baton Rouge coming out on top 17 to 14. The Bears' bats finally woke up and they were able to get that timely hit that they had been missing in the first two games of this series.

Bossier would get on the board first with a run, in the first inning. The Bears would respond with three runs, in the bottom of the first. William Dunn would lead off with a single, Trey Webb was hit by a pitch and Blaise Foote would single scoring Dunn. A sac fly by Braxton Gallet and a throwing error by the Cavs would plate two more Bears runs. After one inning, the Bears led 3-1. The Cavs would inch closer with a run, in the scend inning.  Again, the Bears would respond, in the bottom of the frame, with 3 innings to take a 6 to 2 lead. Ethan Menard ad Lane Hutchinson would hit back-to-back singles. William Dunn would then single to right field driving in Menard. Trey Webb would hit a sac fly scoring Hutchinson and finally Dunn would score on a pass ball. The Cavs would respond with 6 runs, in the third inning, to take an 8 to 6 lead after three innings. The Bears would score three runs, in the fourth inning, to retake the lead:9 to 8. Ethan Menard would lead off with a single. Lane Hutchinson would hit a triple scoring Menard.  Hutchinson would score on a Trey Webb homer to left field. The Cavs would tie the game a 9 with a run in the fifth inning. Again, the Bears would rally and retake the lead with 2 runs, in the bottom of the frame.  William Dunn would hit a double to  right field scoring two runs.  The Cavs would tie the game in the sixth via a two-run homer by A. Makarus. Again, the Bears would rally and score 3 runs, in the bottom of the sixth, to retake the 14 to 11 leads.  Each team would score a run, in the seventh inning, and two runs, in the eighth, but in the end the Bears would outlast the Cavs to earn the 17 to 14 victory.

The Cavs hit three homers in the game while the Bears hit one.

Case Roark earned the victory for the Bears. The lefty pitched four and two-thirds innings, in relief, for the Bears allowing 6 runs on 8 hits while striking out two. Caden Akana earned the save for the Bears. Caden pitched one and one-third innings allowing 0 runs on 0 hits.  He recorded the last five outs of the game for the Bears. Drew Blanchard started on the mound for the Bears.  Thomas Walsh earned the loss for Bossier Parish. He pitched one and two-thirds innings allowing 3 runs n 4 hits.

Baton Rouge outhit Bossier Parish 13 to 11. Bossier committed 2 errors while Baton Rouge committed one in the ball game.

Bears Game Highlights:

William Dunn went 3 for 4 with 3 runs and 3 RBIs

Trey Webb went 1 for 1 with 3 runs, and 1 homerun

Blaise Foote went 1 for 3 with 2 runs and 1 RBI

Tristan Frederick went 1 for 4 with 1 run and 2 RBIs

Ethan Menard went 2 for 5 with 2 runs

Lane Hutchinson went 2 for 3 with 3 runs and 1 RBI

 

With the victory the Bears improve to 2-4, while the Cavs fall to 5-1 on the young season.

The Bears will be back in action this Wednesday February 9, 2022, as they travel to Poplarville, Mississippi to take on the Pearl River Wildcats. This will be a doubleheader starting at 2 pm at Dub Herring Park.
