Baton Rouge Bears dominate at the plate and on the mound to sweep the Nunez Pelicans this afternoon in Chalmette.  The Bears would score 35 runs on 32 hits with 8 homers in the two games. The Bears would win game one 15 to 5 and game two 20 to 4.  Both games ended after five innings.

Game One:

Baton Rouge Bears score early and often enroute to the 15 to 5 five inning run rule victory.  Lane Hutchinson led the Bears to victory with a grand slam and 7 RBIs in the ball game.

The Bears would get things started, in the second inning, when they put a huge, crooked number on the board. The Bears would score 9 runs in the second inning. The second inning was highlighted by back-to-back homers by Gage Breithaupt and Parker Autry. Cody Crifasi would then single and score on a Karius Joseph homer to centerfield. The Bears would then load the bases when Carriere would get hit by a pitch, and William Dunn and William Veillon would hit back to back singles. Nathan Beyer would then walk to score a run. Lane Hutchinson would clear the bases with a grand slam to right field.

Nunez would score two runs, in the second inning, but still trailed the Bears 9-2.  The Bears would put up three more runs, in the third inning.  The Bears would load the bases again and Nathan Beyer would hit an infield single scoring one run then Lane Hutchinson would strike again this time with a double to right field driving in two runs. Nunez would score two more runs, in the third inning, off a H Boudreaux homer to centerfield. After three, the Bears led 13- 4. In the fourth, both teams would score one run in their respective innings. After four, the Bears led 14-5. In the fifth inning, the Bears would scratch across one more run when Parker Autry would single to left field driving in Gage Breithaupt who doubled to centerfield, to secure the 15 to 5 run rule victory. 

Christopher Courville earned the victory for the Bears. Chris pitched five innings allowing 5 runs on 12 hits while striking out 1 and walking 1. Frank Miller took the loss for the Pelicans. He pitched one and one-third innings allowing 9 runs on 7 hits while striking out 1 and walking 1.

Baton Rouge outhit Nunez 13 to 12. Nunez was credited with one error in the ballgame. Baton Rouge hit four homers in the game. Nunez had two homers in the game.

 

Bears Game 1 Highlights:

Nathan Carriere went 1 for 3 with 2 Runs.

William Dunn went 1 for 3 with 2 runs, 1 RBI and 1 BB.

William Veillon went 1 for 3 with 2 Runs, 1 RBI and 1 BB

Nathan Beyer went 1 for 2 with 2 Runs, 1 RBI and 2 BB

Lane Hutchinson went 2 for 4 with 1 Run, 7 RBIs and 1 grand slam.

Gage Breithaupt went 2 for 2 withers 2 Runs, 1 RBI, 2 BB and 1 HR

Parker Autry went 2 for 3 with 1 Run, 2 RBIs, 1 BB and 1 HR

Cody Crifasi went 1 for 3 with 1 run.

Karius Joseph went 2 for 4 with 2 Runs, 2 RBIs and 1 HR

 

Game two:

It was another offensive explosion for the Bears, in game two, as they would score 20 runs on 19 hits to take the 20 to 4, five inning run rule victory.  Lane Hutchinson, William Veillon and Gage Breithaupt paced the Bears with a homerun each and they combined for 12 RBIs.

Each team would score a run in the first inning. For the Bears, Gage Breithaupt would single up the middle scoring Nathan Carriere who led off with a single to left field. For the Pelicans, L. Leblanc would lead off with a solo homer to right field. After one inning, the game was tied at one a piece. In the second inning, the Bears would score eight runs to take a commanding 9 to 1 lead. In the second inning, the Bears would get back to back solo homers from Lane Hutchinson and Cody Crifasi. (this was Cody's first collegiate homerun) The Bears would load the bases for Gage Breithaupt who would hit a grand slam over the right field fence. Finally, Lane Hutchinson would strike again with a single to right field driving in Blaise Foote who doubled to left field.  In the third inning, the Bears would score four more runs to extend their lead to 13-1. William Veillon would hit a two-run homer to left field.  Blaise Foote would hit another double to left field scoring a run. Lane Hutchinson would then single to left field scoring Foote from second. Nunez would answer back, in the bottom of the third, with two runs off a A. Crew two run homer to centerfield. After three innings, the Bears led 13-3. Nunez would add another run, in the fourth inning, to scratch closer; 13-4. The Bears bats would explode again for 7 runs, in the fifth inning, to secure the 20 to 4 run rule victory.  In the fifth inning, the Bears would take advantage of some inconsistent pitching by the Pelicans to score two runs.  Alex Guilbeau, Creed David and Peter Holden would all single, in the inning, driving home runners.

Jacob Poe earned the victory for the Bears. Poe pitches a complete game five innings allowing 4 runs on 7 hits while striking out 7 and walking 1. Sal Montalbano took the loss for Nunez. He pitched one and one-third innings allowing 6 runs on 7 hits while walking 1. 

Baton Rouge outhit Nunez 19 to 7. Baton Rouge was credited with one error while Nunez had two. The Bears hit four homers while Nunez hit two in the ballgame.

 

Bears Game 2 Highlights:

Nathan Carriere went 1 for 4 with 1 Run.

Cameron Lewis had 1 BB and 1 RBI.

Creed David went 3 for 3 with 2 BB and 1 RBI.

William Veillon went 1 for 3 with 2 runs, 2 BB, 3 RBIs and 1 HR

Gage Breithaupt went 3 for 5 with 1 Run, 5 RBIs and 1 HR

Peter Holden went 1 for 1 with 2 RBIs.

Blaise Foote went 3 for 3 with 4 runs, 1 RBI and 2 doubles.

Lane Hutchinson went 3 for 3 with 1 Run, 4 RBIs and 1 HR

Cody Crifasi went 3 for 3 with 1 run, 1 RBI and 1HR- his first collegiate homer. 

Alex Guilbeau went 1 for 3 with 2 Runs and 1 RBI. 

 

With the pair of victories, the Baton Rouge Bears improve to 26-22, 10-6 in conference play, while Nunez falls to 13-30, 1-11 in conference play.

 

The Bears are scheduled to be back in action this Wednesday April 28 as they host the LSUE Bengals in a doubleheader starting at 4 pm.
