Offensive explosion by Bears dominates Nunez Pelicans

Baton Rouge Bears had an offensive explosion today enroute to the doubleheader sweep of conference rivals the Nunez Pelicans at Chalmette High School. Bears win game one 16 to 1 and game two 14-4.

Game One:

A six RBI day for sophomore outfielder William Veillon leads the Bears to a 16 to 1 victory over the Nunez Pelicans. Veillon was a double shy of hitting for the cycle. 

The Bears would get on the board first, in the first inning, when Nathan Beyer would double to centerfield scoring Nathan Carriere who lead off with a single. The Bears would score five runs, in the third, to take a commanding 6 to 0 lead.  Cody Crifasi would lead off with a double to centerfield and he would score on a Nathan Carriere single. William Veillon would then hit a two-run homer to deep centerfield. The Bears would wrap up the inning when Lane Hutchinson would single driving in two more Bears.  Nunez would finally get on the board with a run, their only one of the ball game, in the bottom of the third. William Veillon would strike again,in the fourth, with a triple to left field scoring another Bears run. Parker Autry would single to right field driving home Veillon. After four innings, the Bears led 8 to 1. In the sixth, Veillon would hit a single driving in Carriere who doubled to left field. After six innings, the Bears led 9 to 1.  In the seventh, the Bears broke the game wide open with seven runs. The inning was highlighted by a triple by Deionte Norris scoring two runs, a William Veillon single scoring two more, and Jonas LeBourgeois first collegiate homer scoring three runs. The pitching duo of Blaise Foote and Drew Blanchard kept the Pelicans off balanced at the plate all game. 

 

Blaise Foote started on the mound for the Bears and earned the victory. Blaise pitched six innings allowing 1 run on 5 hits while striking out 4 and walking 0. Drew Blanchard pitched one inning in relief for the Bears. Paul Howard took the loss for Nunez. He pitched five and a third innings allowing 9 runs on 11 hits while striking out 6 and walking 1.

The Bears hit two homers  in the game and out hit the Pels 16 to 5.

 

Bears Game 1 Highlights:

Nathan Carriere went 3 for 4 with 3 Runs, and 1 RBI.

William Veillon went 4 for 5 with 3 Runs, 6 RBIs, 1 triple, 1 HR.

Nathan Beyer went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI. 

Jonas LeBourgeois went 1 for 1 with 1 Run, 1 RBI and 1 HR

Parker Autry went 1 for 3 with 1 Run, and 1 RBI. 

Lane Hutchinson went 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs. 

Gage Breithaupt went 1 for 1 with 1 Run.

Deionte Norris went 1 for 4 with 1 Run and 2 RBIs. 

Cody Crifasi went 2 for 3 with 3 runs.

 Game Two:

The Bears offensive explosion continued, in game two, as they would run rule the Nunez Pelicans 14 to 4 in seven innings.  The Bears would hit four homers and belt out 11 hits enroute to the victory.

The Bears would get on the board first, in the first, when William Veillon would hit a two-run homer to centerfield to give the Bears the early lead.  Nunez would score a run, in the second inning, to inch closer;2-1.  In the fourth inning, the Bears would explode for four runs from three homers. Nathan Beyer and Lane Hutchinson would hit back-to-back solo homers to lead off the inning. Gage Breithaupt would hit a two-run homer to centerfield to cap off the Bears innings.  Nunez would score a run, in the bottom of the fourth, but they still trailed 6 to 2.  The Bears would put up another four spot, in the five innings. The inning was highlighted by a Beyer single, Breithaupt double, Crifasi sac bunt and a Guilbeau single. After five innings, the Bears led 10 to 2. In the sixth inning, the Bears would tact on four more runs to their lead; 14 to 2.  Beyer would hit a sac fly scoring Carriere who was hit by a pitch and stole second and third. Veillon would walk and score on a pass ball. Alex Guilbeau would drive in the final two runs for the Bears when he would single to left field scoring Hutch and KJ.  Nunez would hit a two run homer,in the bottom of the sixth, but it was not enough as Hunter Dupuy would come in to pitch for the Bears and shut the Pels down, in the seventh, to seal the 14 to 4 run rule conference victory.

 

Jacob Poe started on the mound for the Bears and earned the victory. Poe pitched five innings allowing 4 runs on 5 hits while striking out 3. Hunter Dupuy pitched two scoreless innings in relief for the Bears. Ethan Brister took the loss for Nunez. He pitched five and a third innings allowing 13 runs on 9 hits while striking out 1.

 

Game 2 Bears Highlights:

William Veillon went 2 for 4 with 3 Runs, 2 RBIs, 1 BB and 1 HR

Nathan Beyer went 2 for 3 with 2 runs, 2 RBIS and 1 HR.

Lane Hutchinson went 2 for 4 with 3 Runs, 2 RBIs, 1 BB and 1 HR

Gage Breithaupt went 2 for 5 with 2 Runs, 3 RBIs and 1 HR

Alex Guilbeau went 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs.

Creed David went 1 for 4.

 

With the pair of victories, the Bears improve to 20-14, 5-1 in conference play, while Nunez falls to 12-19, 0-4 in conference play.

Up next for the Bears will be a Monday date with the Delgado Dolphins. This is a makeup game from earlier in the year.  It will start at 4 pm at Southern University-Lee Hines Field.
