Bears and Dolphins renewed their rivalry this afternoon on the Diamond in a conference doubleheader at Southern University-Lee Hines Field. The Bears would win game one 11 to 1,in a six-inning run rule, while the Dolphins would take game two 12 to 4 in a seven innings run rule.

 

Game 1:

The Baton Rouge Bears would use a huge fifth inning to propel them to the 11 to 1 victory. The Delgado Dolphins would get on the board first with a run, in the first. This was the only run the Dolphins would be able to mustard off Bears starting pitcher Peter Holden. The Bears would tie the game at one when William Veillon would triple to centerfield scoring Cody Crifasi, who reached on a walk.  The Bears bats would come alive,in the fifth inning, when they would put seven runs on the board.  Nathan Beyer would hit a triple to right field scoring three runs. Parker Autry would follow Beyer with a single to centerfield scoring Beyer from third. Autry would score on a Karius Joseph's fielder's choice. Cody Crifasi would single to right field scoring two more runs. At the end of the fifth inning, the Bears held a commanding 8 to 1 lead. Nathan Beyer and Parker Autry would go back-to-back with home runs, in the sixth, to seal the 11 to 1 run rule victory over the Dolphins.

Peter Holden pitched a complete game for the Bears to earn the victory. Peter held the Dolphins in check for six innings, allowing only 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 7. Will Reed took the loss for Delgado. He pitched four and a third innings allowing 8 runs on 8 hits while striking out 1.

The Bears outhit the Dolphins 12 to 4. Delgado was credited for 2 errors while Baton Rouge was credited with 1.

Game 1 Bears Highlights:

Nathan Carriere went 1 for 4 with 1 Run.

William Veillon went 2 for 3 with 2 Runs, 1 RBI, 1 triple and 1 BB.

Nathan Beyer went 3 for 4 with 2 runs, 5 RBIs and 1 HR.

Parker Autry went 2 for 4 with 2 Runs, 2 RBIs and 1 HR

William Dunn went 2 for 3 with 1 Run.

Karius Joseph went 1 for 3 with 1 Run and 1 RBI.

Cody Crifasi went 1 for 1 with 2 Runs, 2 BB and 2 RBIs 

 

Game 2:

In game two it was the turning of the tides, as the Delgado Dolphins would score early and use three big innings to defeat the Bears, 12 to 4 in a seven-inning run rule.

Delgado would score first with four runs, in the second, to take the early advantage. The Bears would respond with three runs, in the third innings. Gage Breithaupt would lead off the inning with a single and he would score on a William Veillon single for the Bear's first run of the game. Parker Autry would hit a double to centerfield driving in two more runs. After three innings, the Bears trailed 4 to 3. Delgado would add a run to their lead in the fifth inning; 5 to 3. In the sixth inning, the Dolphins would score four runs. Joubert would homer to right field scoring three of those five runs. The Bears would continue to fight and scratch across another run, in the bottom of the sixth inning. Nathan Beyer, who walked to open the inning, would score on a Karius Joseph infield single.  Joubert would strike again for Delgado, in the seventh inning, when he would single scoring two more runs. Delgado would add three runs, in the seventh, to secure the 12 to 4 seven inning run rule conference victory.

Kale Levatini earned the victory for the Dolphins. He pitched four and two-thirds innings allowing 1 run on 5 hits while striking out 6. Blaine Hardy started on the mound for the Bears and took the loss. Blanked pitched four innings allowing 4 runs on 4 hits while striking out 3. Dane Wise, TJ Thomas Jr., And Deionte Norris all pitched in relief for the Bears.

 

Delgado out hit Baton Rouge 11 to 8. Baton Rouge was credited with 2 errors in the ballgame.

 

Bears Game 2 Highlights:

Nathan Beyer went 1 for 3 with 1 Run.

Parker Autry went 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs, and 1 BB.

Karius Joseph went 1 for 1 with 1RBI. 

Gage Breithaupt went 1 for 3 with 1 Run.

Creed David went 1 for 1.

 

With the split the Bears improve to 21-15 and 6-2 in conference play while Delgado improves to 20-10, 2-2 in conference play.

 

The Bears will return to action this Wednesday April 7 as they host the LSUE Bengals in a noon doubleheader at Southern University-Lee Hines Field
