Gators rally late to defeat Bears

Bears score early but watch lead disappear, with two big innings by the San Jac Gators.  The Bears fall in the series finale 16 to 10.

 

Baton Rouge scored 5 runs in the first two inning of this afternoon game to take an early 5 run lead.  Sophomore Outfielder William Veillon would get thing started, in the first inning, with a double to left center. Will would later score on a Deionte Norris single to left field.  Norris would score on a Nathan Carriere single to center field. Freshman Catcher Alex Guilbeau would single to drive in Carriere. Guilbeau would score on a single to right field by Sophomore Infielder Cody Crifasi to cap off the Bears four run inning.  The Bears hot bats would continue in the second inning when Freshman Outfielder Nathan Beyer would score on a William Dunn single to left field.

The Gators would take advantage of a Bears error in the second inning to score a run.  The Bears held a 4 to 1 lead, after two innings.  The Bears would add to their lead with another run in the third inning. Freshman Infielder Deionte Norris would lead off the third with a double and score on a Gators error. The Gators would explode for 7 runs, in the third inning, to take an 8 to 6 lead. The explosion was led by a solo homer by Coll and a three-run homer by Greer.

Baton Rouge would retake the lead in the fourth with 3 runs of their own.  Deionte Norris would single scoring three runs. The Gator would tie the game in the bottom of the fourth with one run.  After four inning the game was all tied at 9.

In the seventh inning the Bears would scratch across a run when Nathan Carriere would single to left field, steal second and third and score on a wild pitch.  San Jac would respond with 2 runs, in the bottom of the seventh, to retake the lead 11 to 10. San Jac would tact on 5 runs, in the eight to seal, the 16 to 10 victory in the series finale.

 Evan Vanek earned the victory for San Jac. Evan pitched 3 innings allowing 1 run off 2 hits while striking out 5. Chase Wilkerson earned the save for San Jac.  Freshman Pitcher Hunter Dupuy earned the loss for the Bears. Hunter pitched 1 inning allowing 2 runs off 2 hits while walking 1 and striking out 1.  Hayden Sills started the game for the Bears. Hayden pitched 2.2 innings allowing 8 runs off 6 hits while walking 4 and striking out 1. The Bears used 7 pitchers in the series finale.

 

With the victory San jac improved to 3-1 while the Bears fall to 1-3 on the season.

William Dunn went 3 for 5 with 1 Run and 1 RBI.

William Veillon went 2 for 4 with 2 Runs and 1 BB.

Deionte Norris went 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs and 2 Runs.

Nathan Carriere went 2 for 5 with 1 RBI and 2 Runs.

Alex Guilbeau went 1 for 4 with 1 RBI and 1 Run.

Cody Crifasi went 2 for 3.
