Baton Rouge Bears fall to nationally rankled San Jacinto Gators in the opening game of the 2021 season by the final score of 6 to 1.

San Jac got on the board first with two runs, in the first inning, to take the early 2-0 lead.  The Gators would extend their lead, in the second, when Mason would steal home. San Jac would score one run in the fourth and another in the fifth to take a 5 to 0 lead, into the sixth.  The Bears finally would get on the board, in the sixth inning, with one run. Sophomore Parker Autry would reach base after being hit by a pitch.   Freshman Nathan Beyer would pinch run for Parker.  Beyer would advance to second on a wild pitch and score when Freshman Catcher Alex Guilbeau would single to center field. San Jac would match the Bears run in the sixth with a run of their own to extend their lead to 6 to 1. Freshman pitchers' Peter Holden and Sean Burkhead would combine to pitch the final three innings allowing one run off one hit. Unfortunately, the Bears bats would not come alive over those three innings thus falling to the Gators 6 to 1.

Thomas Burbank earned the victory for San Jac.  He pitched four innings allowing zero runs on one hit while striking out three. Freshman pitcher from New Iberia, Jacob Poe took the loss for Baton Rouge. Poe pitched three innings allowing three runs on five hits, while striking out three and walking three.

With the win, San Jac improved to 1-0 while the Bears fall to 0-1. Both teams will continue their weekend series with two games on Saturday starting at 11 am.
