Baton Rouge Bears split doubleheader with #3 Hinds Eagles

The #3 Hinds Eagles invaded the capitol city today to take on the Baton Rouge Bears in a twin bill at Pete Goldsby Field.  The Bears and the Eagles split the day. Hinds wins game one 7 to 6 and the Bears win game two 6 to 5.

 

In game one, Baton Rouge and Hinds passed the lead back and forth all game but eventually Hinds would prevail with the 7 to 6 victory.

Nathan Beyer would open the game for the Bears in dramatic fashion with a lead off solo homer to centerfield for the Bears first run of the game. Hinds would get on the board, in the third inning, with 3 runs to take a 3 to 1 lead. The Bears would respond and tie the game at 3, in the bottom of the third inning with two runs. Creed David and Cody Crifasi both moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.  Hinds would take a 4 to 3 lead in the fourth inning with one run. The Bears would plate two runs in the sixth inning to take the 5 to 4 lead. Luis Marmolejos would single up the middle scoring Guitreau and Lewis. Hinds would not go away as they would score one run, in the seventh inning, to tie the game at 5.  Baton Rouge would retake the lead in the eighth inning, 6 to 5.  The Bears would score on a bases loaded walk by Nathan Carriere.  Hinds would score two runs in the top of the ninth to take a 7 to 6 lead. The Bears could not mustard any magic, in the ninth inning, as they would fall to Hinds 7 to 6.

Tanner Young took the loss for the Bears. Tanner pitched two innings, allowing two runs on four hits, while striking out three. Jalen Daniels started for the Bears. Jalen pitched six innings allowing four runs on four hits, while striking out two.

Bears Game 1 Highlights:

Nathan Beyer went 2 for 5 with Run and 1 RBI

Luis Marmolejos went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI, 1 BB

Blaise Foote went 1 for 4

Nathan Carriere went 3 for 3 with 1 run, 1 RBI, and 2 BB

Creed David went 1 for 3 with 1 run, 1 BB and 1 RBI

Cameron Guitreau went 1 for 4 with 1 run

Cameron Lewis went 1 for 3 with 1 BB and 1 run

 

Baton Rouge Bears take the lead late in game two to earn the 6 to 5 victory.

Hinds Eagles would score first in the second inning via a two-run homerun to right field by Cofield.  Baton Rouge would get on the board, in the fourth inning, with four runs to take a 4 to 2 lead. Blaise Foote would single to right field scoring Beyer, who reached on an error, for the Bears first run of the game. Nathan Carriere would walk, steal second, advance to third on Foote's single and score on a pass ball for the Bears second run of the game. Both Foote and Guitreau would score on an Eagles pass ball.  The Bears would extend their lead in the fifth inning with one run: 5 to 2. Alex Guilbeau would double to centerfield and score on another Eagles pass ball. Hinds would respond and score three runs in the sixth inning to tie the game at 5. Baton Rouge would battle back and scratch a run across in the sixth inning to take a 6 to 5 lead. Nathan Carriere would lead off the inning with a single to left field.  He would advance to second on a ground out by Blaise Foote.  Some aggressive base running would get Carriere over to third.  Cameron Guitreau would hit it to the pitcher but Carriere would elude the tag at home scoring the Bears' game winning run.

Blaine Hardy was credited with the victory for the Bears. Blaine pitched one and two-thirds innings allowing zero runs on two hits. Blaise Foote started the game for the Bears. Blaise lasted five and a third innings allowing five runs on five hits while striking out three.

Bears Game 2 Highlights:

William Veillon went 1 for 3

Nathan Carriere went 1 for 2 with 2 runs

Blaise Foote went 1 for 3 with 1 run and 1RBI

Cameron Guitreau had 1 run and 1 RBI

Alex Guilbeau went 2 for 3 with 1 run

 

With the split the Bears are now 14-14 on the season.

The Bears will be back in action tomorrow Sunday March 8 as they travel to Alexandria, LA to face the LSUA Generals at 4 pm.
