Bears Walk it Off Again

The Baton Rouge Bears traveled to Beaumont to take on the South Suburban Bulldogs this evening at Lamar University.  For the second straight game the Bears walked all with the victory. This time Sophomore Cameron Guitreau would hit a sac fly scoring Zach Martin for the winning run, 4 to 3.

Baton Rouge would get on the board first with a run, in the first inning, to take the 1-0 lead over South Suburban. William Veillon would lead off with a single to left field and would score on a Luis Marmolejos single to right field.  The Bears would strike again, in the fourth inning, with an run. Nathan Beyer would lead off the inning with a double to right and he would score on a Nathan Carriere sac fly. The Bears would tact on another run in the fifth inning to extend their lead to 3-0, after five innings. Austin Norris would reach base by being hit by a pitch and he would score on a William Dunn single to right field.  For the next three innings, it was a pitching duel as neither team could scratch across a run. Bears pitcher Gavin Green held the Bulldogs scoreless for eight innings. South Suburban would fight back and tie the game at three in the top of the ninth.  The ninth inning was a bit dramatic for the Bears. Luis Marmolejos would single to left field. Luis was removed for pinch runner Zach Martin. Zack would steal second and advance to third on a single by Nathan Carriere. Zach would score the winning run when he would tag up on a Cameron Guitreau sac fly to centerfield. The Bears would win 4 to 3 in walk off fashion for the second straight game.

 

Gavin Green started on the mound for the Bears. Gavin pitched eight innings allowing  three runs on seven hits while striking out six. Tanner Young earns the victory in relief. Tanner pitched one inning allowing zero runs on zero hits while striking out one.

 

Bears Game Highlights

William Veillon went 1 for 1 with 1 run

Nathan Beyer went 1 for 4 with 1 run

Luis Marmolejos went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI

Nathan Carriere went 1 for 3 with 1RBI

Cameron Guitreau had 1RBI

William Dunn went 1 for 3 with 1RBI

 

With the victory the Bears improve to 13-13 on the season.

 

The Bears will be back in action this Saturday March 7 as they take on #3 Hinds Community College Eagles in a doubleheader starting at 1 pm at Pete Goldsby Field.
