Bears Baseball swept by #4 Pearl River Wildcats

Bears traveled to Poplarville, Mississippi this afternoon to square of against the #4 Pearl River Wildcats. Pearl River would rally late, in game one, to take the 6 to 5 victory and shut out the Bears in game two, 10-0.

The Bears would score a run in the first three innings to take an early 3 to 0 lead. Baton Rouge would start the game off with back to back singles by Nathan Beyer and Cody Crifasi. Beyer would score the Bears first run on a ground out by Blaise Foote to the second basemen.  BRCC would tact on another run in the second inning. The Bears would again hit back to back singles. This time it was Nathan Carriere and William Dunn. Nathan Carriere would steal third and score on a Luke Lancon ground out to the shortstop for the Bears second run of the game. In the third inning, the Bears would take advantage of some inconsistent pitching by the Wildcats and some aggressive baserunning to add to their lead. Pearl River would get on the board, in the bottom of the third inning, via the long ball.  R. Ewing would homer to centerfield off Blaise Foote. After three innings, the Bears still led 3 to 1. Pearl River would inch close with a run in the fourth inning to close the gap to 3-2. The Bears would respond with two runs in the fifth inning to extend their lead to 5 to 2. Nathan Carriere would single to left field driving in two runs. Pearl River would use the long ball again and take advantage of some inconsistent pitching by the Bears to score 4 runs in the seventh inning to take a 6 to 5 lead.  The Bears would be held in check in the eighth and ninth inning thus falling to the Wildcats 6 to 5 in game one.

Trace McNabb started the game for the Wildcats. He pitched one and two-thirds innings allowing 2 runs on 4 hits.  Pearl River had five student athletes pitch in relief. Blaise Foote started the game for the Bears. Blaise pitched 6 innings allowing 4 runs on six hits while striking out 4. Peter Holden pitched in relief for the Bears.  Peter pitched 2 innings allowing 1 run on 4 hits.

 

Bears Game 1 Highlights:

Nathan Beyer went 1 for 5 with 1 run

Cody Crifasi went 1 for 3 with 1 run

Parker Autry went 2 for 4 with 1 run

Blaise Foote had 1 run and 1 RBI

Nathan Carriere went 2 for 4 with 1 run and 2 RBIs

William Dunn went 1 for 4

 

Baton Rouge struggled to find offense in game two, while Pearl River would use two big scoring innings to secure the 10-0 shutout victory.

The Wildcats would score three runs, in the third inning and explode with seven runs, in the sixth inning to seal the shut-out victory.  The Bears struggled on the day with only three hits compared to nine for the Wildcats.

Jacob Scherer earned the victory for the Wildcats.  He pitched five innings allowing zero runs on one hit while striking out three.  Jacob Poe earned the loss for the Bears. Jacob pitched four innings allowing three runs on five hits while striking out four. Blaine Hardy pitched in relief for the Bears.

Bears Game 2 Highlights:

Nathan Carriere went 1 for 3

Nathan Beyer went 1 for 3

Blaise Foote went 1 for 2

 

The Bears fall to 8-11 on the season.

 

The Bears will be back in action this Wednesday February 26 as they take on the Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs in a doubleheader starting at 3 pm at Pete Goldsby Field.
