BRCC Bears split with Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs

Bears earn a split with the Bulldogs today in Perkinston, Mississippi. Bears win game one 13 to 10 and lose game two 8 to 5.

Nathan Beyer had a day at the plate with 2 homeruns and 5 RBIs, as he helped the Bears defeat the Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs, in game one of today's twin bill at Ken Curly Farris Field. There was no shortage of offensive production. The Bulldogs pounded out 14 hits while the Bears had 13 hits. Mississippi Gulf Coast would get on the board first with a one in the first to take the early lead. The Bears would respond with three runs of their own in the second inning. The Bears would load the bases when Deionte Norris would walk, Blaise Foote would hit a bunt single and Alex Guilbeau would walk. D. Norris would score on a pass ball and Foote would score on a ground out by Cody Crifasi. Guilbeau would score on a Karius Joseph ground out. Gulf Coast would tie the game at 3 with a two-run homer by B. White in the bottom of the frame. Nathan Beyer would lead off the third inning with a homer to left field to help the Bears regain the lead; 4 to 3. Both clubs would score five runs in the fourth inning.  After four, the Bears led 9 to 8.  The Bears would take the lead for good in the seventh with a four-run inning. Nathan Beyer would hit a grand slam over the right field wall. The Bulldogs would not go away quietly as they would rally and score 2 runs in the bottom of the seventh but it was not enough as Baton Rouge would win game one 13 to 10.

 

Christopher Courville earned the win for the Bears. Chris pitched three and two-thirds innings allowing 8 runs on 8 hits while striking out 5. Dane Wise and TJ Thomas Jr. pitched in relief for the Bears.  They combined to allow 2 runs on 6 hits. Justin Lockey got the loss for Mississippi Gulf Coast.  He pitched three and two-thirds innings allowing 4 runs on 4 hits while striking out 2.

Bears Game 1 Highlights:

Nathan Beyer went 2 for 4 with 2 runs and 5 RBIs. Nate hit 2 homers

William Dunn went 2 for 5 with 1 run and 2 RBIs

Creed David went 3 for 5 with 1 run and 1 RBI

Deionte Norris went 1 for 2 with 1 run

Blaise Foote went 2 for 4 with 1 run and 1 RBI

Cody Crifasi went 1 for 3 with 2 runs and 1RBI

Karius Joseph went 1 for 4 with 2 runs and 1 RBI

 

 

 

In game two the Mississippi Gulf Coast came out hot scoring 8 runs in the first two innings to take a commanding 8 to 0 lead over the Bears.  The Bears would claw back but it was not enough as they would drop game two 8 to 5.  The Bears would get on the board in the third inning with 2 runs. Karius Joseph, who walked would score on a Creed David single to left field. David would then score on a Blasie Foote single to left field. The Bears would pick up another run in the fifth inning when Cody Crifasi would lead off with a triple and score on a double by Deionte Norris.  After five innings, the Bears trailed 8 to 3.  In the seventh the Bears would rally with two runs off inconsistent pitching by the Bulldogs, but it was not enough. Bears lose game two 8 to 5.

The Bears outhit the Bulldogs 7 to 6 but committed 2 errors compared to 1 by the Bulldogs.

H. Robb earned the victory for the Bulldogs.  He pitched two and two-thirds innings allowing 2 runs on 3 hits while striking out 5. Gavin Green took the loss for the Bears. Gavin pitched one inning allowing 4 runs on 5 hits.

Bears Game 2 Highlights:

Cody Crifasi went 2 for 3 with 2runs and 1 BB

Creed David went 2 for 4 with 1 run and 1 RBI

Deionte Norris went 1 for 4 with 1 RBI

Blaise Foote went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI

 

With the split the Bears are now 6-5 on the season.

 

The Bears will be back in action this Saturday February 15 as they will face Bossier Parish at 12 pm and St. Louis Community College at 6 pm at Pete Goldsby Field.
