Bears Baseball Sweeps Southwest Mississippi Bears

Baton Rouge Bears go on the road for the first time this season and sweep the Southwest Mississippi Bears in a twin bill. The Bears win game one 9 to 4 and take game two 10 to 7.

 

In game one, Southwest Mississippi Bears would get on the board first with a run, in the third inning, to take the early lead. BRCC Bears would take the lead,in the fourth inning, with two runs.  Creed David would single, Deionte Norris would walk and Blaise Foote would single on a bunt to load the bases.  Dane Wise would hit a sac fly to centerfield scoring David.  Cody Crifasi would single on a bunt scoring D. Norris from third.  BRCC would add to their lead, in the fifth inning, with a lead off homer run by Nathan Beyer. Deionte Norris would hit a double driving in Parker Autry who singled.  Blaise Foote would ground out to the shortstop but score David, who singled.  Dane Wise would hit a triple to right field scoring D. Norris.  Wise would then score on an error by the SMCC Bear's catcher.  BRCC Bears would score five runs in the fifth inning to take a 7 to 1 lead over the SMCC Bears.  BRCC would tact on two more runs, in the sixth inning, to take a 9 to 1 lead.  SMCC would not go away as they would score two runs in the sixth and 1 run in the seventh but it was not enough as the BRCC Bears take game one 9 to 4.

Joseph Saucier earned the victory for the Bears. Joey pitched six innings allowing 4 runs on 9 hits while striking out 3. Jordy Adams threw one inning in relief for the Bears. Hilton took the loss for Southwest.  He pitched four innings allowing 2 runs on 3 hits while striking out three.

Game 1 Highlights:

Nathan Beyer went 2 for 3 with 2 runs, 2 RBIs, 1 Homerun

Parker Autry went 2 for 4 with 1 run and 1 RBI

Creed David went 2 for 3 with 2 runs

Deionte Norris went 1 for 3 with 2 runs and 1 RBI

Dane Wise went 1 for 2 with 1 run and 2 RBIs

 

BRCC Bears rally late with a seven run six inning to take the 10 to 7 come from behind victory in game two versus Southwest Mississippi.

Southwest Mississippi jumped out early with three runs in the first inning to take a 3-0 lead.  Baton Rouge would get on the board, in the fourth inning, with two runs. William Dunn would start the inning with a double to left field.  Dunn would score on a Christian Wood single to right field. Wood would score on a Zach Martin single to the shortstop. After four innings, Southwest led 4 to 2.  The BRCC Bears would add a run in the fifth inning to close the gap to 4 to 3. BRCC took advantage of some inconsistent pitching by the SMCC Bears who walked the bases loaded. They would score on a pass ball. In the sixth inning, the BRCC Bears would explode for 7 runs. Again, the BRCC Bears would take advantage of some inconsistent pitching and some timely hitting to score seven runs to take a 10 to 4 lead. Southwest would add three runs in the bottom of the seventh, but it was not enough as the BRCC Bears would take game two by the final score of 10 to 7.

 

Blaine Hardy earned the victory for BRCC.  Blaine pitched four and a third innings allowing 4 runs on 6 hits while striking out 4.  DeOnte' Dotson started the game for the Bears.  Peter Holden pitched one inning in relief for the Bears.  Rigell Robinson took the loss for Southwest Mississippi. He pitched one and one third innings allowing 7 runs on 2 hits.

 

Game 2 Highlights:

Nathan Beyer went 1 for 2 with 1 Run and 2 BB

Parker Autry had 3 BB and 1 RBI

Creed David went 1 for 2 with 2 runs, 2 RBIs and 2 BB

William Dunn went 2 for 4 with 2 runs and 2 RBIs

Christian Wood went 1 for 3 with 1 run and 1 RBI

Zach Martin went 2 for 3 with 1 run and 1 RBI

 

With the two victories the Bears improve to 5-4 on the season.

 

 

The Bears will be back in action on Thursday February 13 as they travel to Perkinston Mississippi to take on the Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs in a doubleheader starting at 2 pm at Ken Curly Farris Field.
