Bears split with Dolphins in Conference Series

Due to some unforseen circumstances on Saturday the baseball game versus Delgado could not be played thus the Bears were forced to play a pair of games on Sunday in New Orleans at Delgado.  The Bears would use a strong pitching outing by Joseph Battaglia III and some timely hitting by Veillon, Crawford, Jarrell and Marmolejos to win game one 5 to 1.  The Dolphins would score late to take game two 2 to 1.

Baton Rouge Bears came out on fire at the plate and Joseph Battaglia III kept the Dolphins off balance all afternoon, as the Bears win game one 5 to 1.  The bats would come alive early as they would score one run, in the first inning ,when William Veillon would lead off with a single and score on a Samuel Jarrell ground out to third base.  The Bears would strike again for two runs in the third to extend their lead to 3 to 0, after three innings.  Willam Veillon would walk and score on a Cameron Crawford triple to centerfield.  Samuel Jarrell would score on a Luis Marmolejos single to left field.  Baton Rouge would tact on another run, in the fourth, when Cody Crifasi, who was hit by a pitch, would score on a William Veillon single. William Veillon would continue his hot day at the plate with a lead off homerun to left field, in the seventh inning.  After seven, the Bears lead 5 to 0.  Delgado would finally scratch a run across, in the eighth inning, but it would not be enough as the Bears win game one, 5 to 1.

Joseph Battaglia III led the Bears to victory ,as he pitched eight innings allowing one run on six hits while striking out seven.  Jordy Adams threw one inning in relief for the Bears.  Daniel Dugas earned the loss for the Delgado Dolphins.  He pitched two and two-thirds innings allowing three runs on six hits.

Game 1 Bears Highlights:

William Veillon went 3 for 3 with 3 Runs, 1 BB and 2 RBIs

Cameron Crawford went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI and 1 BB

Samuel Jarrell went 1 for 4 with 1 Run and 1 RBI

Thomas Garber went 1 for 3 with 1BB

Luis Marmolejos went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI

Bo Barrilleaux went 1 for 3

Luke Lancon went 2 for 4

Joesph Battaglia III pitched 8 innings, 6 Hits, 1 Run and 7 SO

 

Game two was a good battle between the Bears and the Dolphins but the Dolphins would break the tie, in the seventh, to win 2 to 1.   The Bears would score their only run, in the third inning, when Cameron Crawford would double and score on a Mitchel Lemoine single to right field.  The Dolphins would quickly tie the game in the bottom of the third with one run.  The game was tied until the seventh when the Dolphins would manufacture a run.  Starting pitchers' Brett Fisacklery and Payton Russell pitched good games for both teams.

Payton Russell started the game for the Dolphins.  He pitched six innings allowing one run on five hits.  Dwain Variso pitched in relief for the Dolphins and he earned the win. Brett Fisackerly took the loss for the Bears.  Brett pitched six and two-thirds innings allowing two runs on nine hits while striking out four. Tristin Cosby threw in relief for the Bears.

Delgado out hit Baton Rouge 10 to 5.

Game 2 Bears Highlights:

Cameron Crawford went 1 for 5 with 1 Run

Samuel Jarrell went 1 for 5

Mitchel Lemoine went 1 for 4 with 1 RBI

Cameron Guitreau went 2 for 4

 

Delgado finished league play with a 9-3 record, thus winning the regular season championship. Baton Rouge is now 5-5 in conference play with two games left versus Nunez.

The Bears will be back in action this Saturday and Sunday as they finish LCCAC conference play against the Nunez Pelicans.  Saturday's game will be at 1 pm at Pete Goldsby Field then the series will move to Chalmette on Sunday.
