Bears split with Archers

Baton Rouge Bears and the St. Louis Archers squared off today in their annual spring meeting at Pete Goldsby Field.  The Archers won game one by the final score of 15 to 6 but the Bears bounced back, in the night cap, to take the 4 to 2 victory.

In game one, the Bears would get on the board first with three runs. Luke Lancon would lead off the game with a double to center field.  Cameron Crawford would follow up with a single to right field scoring Lancon. Bo Barrilleaux would double to right field. Crawford would score on a Samuel Jarrell ground out for the Bears' second run. Barrilleaux would score when William Veillon would ground out to the third basemen.

The Archers would score seven runs over the next five innings to take a 7 to 3 lead over the Bears after six innings.  Baton Rouge would attempt a rally, in the seventh, when they would score another three runs to close the gap to 7 to 6. Cody Crifasi would lead off the inning with a walk. Luke Lancon would single to center field. Cameron Crawford would then double to left field scoring Crifasi and Lancon.  Crawford would score on a Samuel Jarrell single to left field.

St. Louis would then erupt for 8 runs, in the ninth inning, to seal the 15 to 6 victory.

Nick Wiley got the victory for St. Louis. He pitched six innings allowing three runs on six hits. Brett Fisackerly started the game for Baton Rouge. Brett pitched three innings allowing 2 runs on five hits. William Garrett Smith, Jacob Jenson, Christopher Sagrera, Trevor Benoit, Cole Harper and Dane Wise all pitched in relief for the Bears.

Bears Highlights Game 1:

Luke Lanyon went 3 for 3 with 2 Runs and 1 BB

Cameron Crawford went 2 for 4 with 2 runs and 3 RBIs

Bo Barrilleaux went 2 for 5 with 1 run

Samuel Jarrell went 1 for 5 with 2 RBIs

 

In game two, Baton Rouge opened the scoring with a run in the third and a run in the fourth to take an early 2-0 lead.  In the third inning, Thomas Garber led off with a single to right field. Jordin Labruzza would then ground into a fielder's choice.  Labruzza would score on a single to center field by Donavon Murray, for the Bears' first run of the game. In the fourth, Bo Barrilleaux would reach base by being hit by a pitch and would score on a ground out by William Veillon.

The Archers would tie the game at two with two runs, in the sixth inning. The Bears would take the lead for good in the eighth inning when Cameron Crawford would lead off the inning with a single and would score when Bo Barrilleaux launched a bomb over the left field wall.  The Bears defense would be solid in the ninth to preserve the 4 to 2 victory over the St. Louis Archers.

Tristin Cosby earned the victory for Baton Rouge.  He pitched three and two-thirds in relief of Bears starting pitcher Tanner Young. Cosby allowed zero runs on one hit while striking out five.

Parker Cuddihee got the loss for St. Louis.  He pitched three and two-thirds innings allowing two runs off of two hits while striking out six.

 

Bears Highlights Game 2:

Donavon Murray went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI and 1 BB

Bo Barrilleaux went 1 for 3 with 2 Runs and 2RBIs- including a homer

Samuel Jarrell went 1 for 4

Thomas Garber went 1 for 3

Tanner Young pitched five innings allowing 2 runs on 6 hits while striking out 10.

 

The Bears will be back in action tomorrow February 17 at 12 pm against this same St. Louis Archer Team.  They will also play Pearl River at 6 pm tomorrow night at Pete Goldsby Field.
