Panola uses the Long Ball to defeat Baton Rouge

Panola Ponies hit 5 homeruns enroute to a 9-4 victory, this evening, in the opening day of the 2019 baseball season.

Panola got on the board first, in the first inning, with a two run homer  by A. Bost to take the early 2-0 lead. They would tact on three more runs, in the second.  The Bears would get on the board with one run, in the fourth inning. Alex Courtier would single, then steal second and score when Samuel Jarrell reached on a throwing error by Panola's shortstop. The Bears would add another run, in the fifth, when Cameron Guitreau would single, then he would score, when Kyle Pitre would reach on another Panola error. In the fifth, Panola's Touchet would homer to extend their lead to 6-2.  In the seventh, Panola would tact on two more via the homerun to take a commanding 8-2 lead. The Bears would continue to fight, in the eighth inning, when Cameron Crawford would draw a walk and would later score on a William Veillon double.  William would score on a sac fly by Bo Barrilleaux to inch closer at 8-4.  But Panola would homer again in the bottom of the frame take game one by the final score of 9-4.

 

Jarrett Whorff earned the victory for Panola, pitching four and two-thirds innings, allowing 2 runs on 2 hits, while striking out 5. Evan Becnel took the loss for the Bears, pitching two innings allowing 5 runs on 7 hits.

Panola had 11 hits (5 were homers) while Baton Rouge only had 4 hits on the evening.

 

Bears Highlights Game 1:

Alex Courtier went 1-3 with 1 run

Cameron Crawford went 1-2 with 1 run and 1 BB

Brett Fisackerly pitched 4 innings allowing 3 Hits, 3 Runs while striking out 8.

 

The Bears will be back in action tomorrow Sunday January 27, 2019 with a doubleheader starting at 1 pm versus this same Panola Ponies ball club.
