Bears Take Two vs Copiah-Lincoln

Bears Take Two vs Copiah-Lincoln

BRCC hosted Copiah-Lincoln on Saturday afternoon for a doubleheader at Pete Goldsby Field. The Bears won the first game 3-0 off a strong pitching performance from sophomore, Jon Jones. BRCC rallied from two sepearte three-run deficits to win game two 11-6.

In game one, Jones allowed three hits to the Wolfpack during the seven-inning contest. He sat down the first nine batters he faced and only twice during the game was Copiah-Lincoln able to move a runner into scoring position.

BRCC began the scoring early. With two outs in the first inning, Aidan Hodges singles to give the Bears their first hit of the game. John Mauldin followed with a triple to right field, scoring Hodges and giving the home team a 1-0 lead.

BRCC would score again in the third inning. Tyler Laporte would reach base on a Copiah-Lincoln error. A Seth Daugherty bunt would put runners on the corners. Hodges would drive in a run with his second single of the game. The Bears led 2-0 after three innings.

Baton Rouge would add some insurance in the sixth inning to make it 3-0. Caleb Prejean would score off a sacrifice fly from Nicholas Cucci.

Jones would make quick work of the Wolfpack in the top of the seventh to give BRCC a 3-0 victory.

Game two was a different story for Baton Rouge. After a shutout in game one, Copiah-Lincoln scored six runs in the first three innings, in large part thanks to a couple BRCC errors. The Bears were down 6-3 after three.

BRCC out hit the Wolfpack 17-9 in the second game, but they found themselves trailing 6-5 entering the seventh inning.

The Bears would tie the game with back to back singles by Mauldin and Joseph Domingue. With the game tied at six, Hunter David doubled to right field to put runners on first and third with only one out in the inning.

A Copiah-Lincoln balk would score Domingue and the Bears led 7-6 for the first time in the game. Michael Smith would then single which scored another run to extend the lead to two.

The big inning finally ended with BRCC plating four runs and a 9-6 lead into the eighth.

The Bears would tack on a couple runs to make the final score 11-6.

BRCC has won six of their last eight games and improved the overall record to 13-16. Up next for Baton Rouge is a trip to Houston on Thursday, March 9th to face South Suburban College. The Bears will be back at Pete Goldsby on Saturday, March 11 to host Hinds Community College in a doubleheader.
