Bears swept by #6 Southeastern Blackhawks

The Baton Rouge Bears and the #6 Southeastern Community College Blackhawks opened a three game series this afternoon at Pete Goldsby Field. The Blackhawks would get their bats rolling early in both games to sweep the Bears 9-2 and 6-4.

Game One

Southeastern Blackhawks would get their bats going, in game one, as they would defeat the Baton Rouge Bears 9 to 2.

The Blackhawks  would get on the board first with three runs, in the top of the second inning, to take the early lead. The Blackhawks would extend their lead with two runs in the top of the fourth inning, 1 run in the fifth inning and 3 runs in the sixth inning; 9-0.

The Bears would get on the board with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Tanner Hornback and Ryan Richard would reach on back to back singles. Hornback would reach third on a pass ball and score on a Jackson Martin ground out. Braden McLin would reach on an error scoring Richard on the play. 

John Touchet started on the mound for the Bears and took the loss. Touchet pitched 2 innings allowing 3 runs ( 2 earned) on 3 hits while walking 2 and striking out 1.  Tanner Cranford (2.0 innings) and Hudson Manuel  3.0 innings) pitched in relief for the Bears. O Thomson started on the mound for the Blackhawks and earned the victory. He pitched 5 innings allowing 0 runs on 3 hits while walking 2 and striking out 1. 

Southeastern outhit Baton Rouge 14 to 6. The Bears committed 3 errors compared to 2 for the Blackhawks.

 

Bears Game One Highlights:

Tanner Hornback went 1 for 3 with 1 run and 1 BB.

Ryan Richard went 2 for 3 with 1 run.

Jackson Martin had 1 RBI.

Braden McLin went 1 for 3.

Seth Fontenot went 1 for 1 with 1 BB.

Dillion Bird went 1 for 2.

 

Game Two

Baton Rouge would jump out to an early lead but could not control the high powered offense of the Southeastern Blackhawks. The Blackhawks would defeat the Bears 6 to 4. in the nightcap of today's doubleheader.

The Blackhawks would jump on the board first with a run in the first inning. The Blackhawks would load the bases with back to back singles and a walk then they would get another single to drive home the first run of the game.  Baton Rouge would plate three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 3-1 lead. Tanner Hornback would be hit by a pitch and he would score on a Ryan Richard double to right field. Collins Dupre and Dillion Bird would draw walks to load the bases. Barrett Hebert would single to right field to score Richard. Lane Patin would draw a walk with the bases loaded to score Dupre for the third run of the frame.

The Blackhawks would score three runs, in the top of the second inning, to take a 4-3 lead. The Blackhawks would add to their lead with a run in the fifth inning via a solo homer by Farina; 5-3.

Baton Rouge would get another run, in the bottom of the sixth inning, to inch closer;5-4. Conner Kleinpeter would reach by being hit by a pitch. John Touchet would replace Kleinpeter on the base paths. Tanner Hornback would hit a double to centerfield scoring Touchet from second.

Southeastern would add an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning to increase their lead to 6-4 over the Bears.  The Blackhawks would get a double play and a strikeout in the seventh inning to seal the 6-4 victory over the Bears. 

Owen Ponthieux started in the mound for the Bears and took the loss. He pitched 4 innings allowing 4 runs in 5 hits while walking 4 and striking out 5. Cole Veronie ( 1 inning) and Jack Cowan (2 innings) pitched in relief for the Bears. Trey O'Neil earned the victory for Southeastern. M. Braeden started on the mound for the Blackhawks.

Southeastern outhit Baton Rouge 10 to 6. The Blackhawks committed two errors in the ball game.

Bears Game Two Highlights:

Tanner Hornback went 3 for 3 with 1 run and 1 RBI.

Ryan Richard went 1 for 4 with 1 run and 1 RBI.

Dillion Bird went 1 for 2 with 2 BB.

Barrett Hebert went 1 for 2 with 1 RBI.

Lane Patin had 1 BB and 1 RBI.

 

With the losses the Bears fell to 3-26 while the Blackhawks improved to 14-5 on the season.

The Bears will finish their series with the Southeastern Community College Blackhawks tomorrow Wednesday March 13 at 2 pm at Pete Goldsby Field.
