Thursday January 9, 2020: Women's Basketball

Baton Rouge, LA

BRCC Women's Head Coach Paula Lee has been asking her team to compete and play a full four quarters all season, and tonight the Lady Bears did just that on their way to a 77 to 58 Region 23 victory over the Mississippi Delta Lady Trojans.

It was a back and forth game for the first five minutes, then the Lady Bears found their stroke from the perimeter outscoring the Lady Trojans 12 to 2 to close out the first quarter with a 20 to 13 lead. Midway through the second quarter the Lady Trojans found their rhythm from behind the arc as they would go on a 12 to 5 run to tie the game at 25, with six minutes left to play. The Lady Bears would take a two-point halftime lead; 35 to 33 on a jumper by Ivy Car with 10 seconds remaining. The Lady Trojans would outscore the Lady Bears 20 to 15, in the second quarter.

At the half, Coach Lee encouraged her kids to keep fighting and finish the game strong.  In the third quarter, Sophomores Desrael Schnyder, A'Zia Reed and Bailey Antoine carried the load on offense, as the Lady Bears would outscore the Lady Trojans 24 to 15 to take a 59 to 48 lead, heading into the fourth.  The Lady Trojans would get as close as ten points but the Lady Bears would keep their foot on the gas pedal and outscore the Lady Trojans 18 to 10 to take the 77 to 58 victory.
