Baton Rouge Lady Bears and the Coahoma Lady Tigers fought till the end of tonight's region 23 contest, but Coahoma had a bit more fight as they would defeat Baton Rouge 57 to 54.

In the first quarter, both teams would turn up the pressure on defense trying to get the other team out of sync. For the most part this strategy worked as the Lady Bears led 18 to 16, after the first quarter.  The Lady Tigers would open the second quarter on a 10-0 run to grab a 26 to 18 led with 6:40 left. Baton Rouge struggled, in the second quarter, with turnovers and rebounding. Coahoma would close out the second quarter with a 33 to 27 halftime advantage.

It was a change of fortune, in the third quarter, as the Lady Bears would outscore the Lady Tigers 14 to 5 to take a 41 to 38 lead after three.  The third quarter saw three lead changes. In the fourth quarter, the Lady Tigers turned up their defensive pressure which forced the Lady Bears into some turnovers and led to some  transition buckets for the Lady Tigers. Coahoma would tie the game at 47 with 3:36 left to play.  Baton Rouge would go on a mini run to take a 52 to 49 led.  The Lady Tigers would tie the game again at 52 with one-minute left to play. With 28.7 seconds left, Coahoma would steal the ball and score a layup to give them a 57 to 52 lead which they would not relinquish.  The Lady Bears had a chance to tie the game and force overtime but Ivy Carr's shot was blocked to end the game.

Baton Rouge committed 26 turnovers and Coahoma scored 20 points off of the Lady Bears errors. 

Jurnee McLaurin led the Lady Tiger with a game high 18 points.  The Lady Bears were led by Sophomore forward Desrael Schnyder.

With the victory Coahoma improves to 6-4, while Baton Rouge falls to 3-11 on the season.

Lady Bears Highlights:

Desrael Schnyder led all Lady Bears with 17 points, 8 rebounds,

Antiesha Griffin scored 12 points with 6 rebounds, 2 assist and 3 steals

Bailey Antoine added 10 points with 2 rebounds, 5 assist and 3 steals

The Lady Bears will be back in action this Thursday January 9 at 5:30 pm in the Bonne Santé Wellness Center as they take on the Mississippi Delta Lady Trojans.
