Lady Bears rally in second half for the victory

Tuesday January 15, 2019: Women's Basketball

Baton Rouge, LA

It was a team victory for the Lady Bears this evening versus Bishop State.  Everyone on the Lady Bears roster contributed in some way to the outcome of the game.  The Lady Bears defeated the Lady Wildcats by the final score of 70 to 64.

The Lady Bears jumped out of the gates early with some aggressive full court defense that lead to some steals and easy transition buckets.  BRCC Lady Bears scored the first seven points of the game to take the early lead with seven minutes to play. Over the next six minutes, Bishop State found their stroke from the perimeter tying the game at 11 then taking a two point lead at the end of the first quarter, 13-11.

The second quarter was a back and forth contests with the game being tied five times. Each team's largest lead in the quarter was three points. Bishop State's Salis Payne had 14 of the Lady Wildcats 29 first half points. The game was knotted at 29 at the break.

At the half, Coach Lee challenged the Lady Bears to defend, and be more aggressive on both ends of the floor.  In the third quarter, the Lady Bears did just that.  They returned to their full court pressure defense that was successful in the opening minutes of the game. They used their defense to fuel their offense as they outscored Bishop State 26 to 16, in the third quarter, to take a ten point lead heading into the final quarter, 55 to 45.  The Lady Wildcats would attempt a comeback, in the fourth quarter, but the total team effort by the Lady Bears, in all phases of the game, would halt the attempt.  The final score was BRCC Lady Bears 70 and Bishop State Lady Wildcats 62.

With the win, the Lady Bears improve to 7-10, while the Lady Wildcats fall to 4-12

The Lady Bears were led in scoring by Desrael Schnyder with 20 point while the Lady Wildcats were led by Valerie Samuel with 25 points.
