Lady Bears hold off Bishop State for the Victory

Another Lady Bears game with a dramatic finish. The Lady Bears held off a second half surge by Bishop State Lady Wildcats to win 67 to 65.

Baton Rouge came out a bit sluggish, in the first quarter. Bishop State held a 8 to 7 lead with 4:45 remaining. That is when the Lady Bears went on a 18 to 5 run to take a 25 to 13 lead at, the end of the first quarter. BRCC was able to set up their press and keep the Lady Wildcats out of sync in their half court offense. The Lady Bears outscored the Lady Wildcats 17 to  13 in the second quarter to take a 16 point lead into the break. Halftime score was Baton Rouge 42 and Bishop State 26.

Bishop State was able to put some pressure on Baton Rouge, in the second half, forcing the Lady Bears into some unforced turnovers. The Lady Wildcats outscored the Lady Bears 21 to 14, in the third quarter. BRCC still led 56 to 47 heading into the fourth.  The fourth quarter was another interesting quarter for the Lady Bears. Bishop State cut the lead to one at 58 to 57 with five minutes left. The Lady Wildcats took a one point lead at 61 to 60, with three minutes to go. The game went back a forth till the final 12 seconds when the Lady Bears took the lead for good. Kayla Watson stole the ball and was fouled driving to the bucket.  She made two free throws to take a one point lead. AH'Million Cosby added to the lead by making one of two free throws.  Baton Rouge escapes with the 67 to 65 victory tonight in Mobile, Alabama.

Bishop State outscored Baton Rouge 39 to 25, in the second half. 

BRCC Lady Bears were led by Sydney Martin with 14 points. Bishop State was led by Salis Payne with 19 points.

 

Lady Bears Highlights :

Sydney Martin led the Lady Bears with 14 points, 2 steals and 4 rebounds.

Tronayia Issac scored 12 points with two rebounds.

Kayla Watson had a double double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. She also had five key steals for the Lady Bears.

 

The Lady Bears will take a break for the Christmas holidays. They will be back in action New Year's Day when they take on Kilgore College, in the Bossier Parish Classic.  Tip is set for 3 pm. BRCC Lady Bears will play at home on January 3rd at 2 pm versus Mississippi Delta.
