Angelina Lady Runners Defeat the BRCC Lady Bears

Angelina Lady Runners Defeat the BRCC Lady Bears

Friday November 2, 2018: Women's Basketball

It was a tail of two halves, this afternoon for the Lady Bears Basketball team. In the first half, the Lady Bears played very timid and a bit scared. Angelina Lady Runners took full advantage of the Lady Bears slow start, as they, scored the first 17 points of the game.  The Lady Bears finally broke onto the scoreboard with a put back basket, by Kayla Watson, with 3:22 left, in the first quarter. Over the next three minutes the Lady Bears went on a small run of 8 to 2 to close out the quarter.  After the first quarter, Angelina had a commanding 19 to 8 lead. The second quarter was a lot like the first for the Lady Bears, they were very sluggish on offense while everything seemed to fall for Angelina.  BRCC was outscored 26 to 4, in the second quarter.  The halftime score was Angelina 45 and BRCC 12.

At the half, the Lady Bears were challenged, by Head Coach Paula Lee, to compete and forget the name on the front of the opponents' jersey and play Lady Bears Basketball.  They responded and played more aggressive on defense and the shots began to fall on offense.  Desrael Schnyder and Chloe Walker were a couple of Lady Bears that stepped up to help lead the Lady Bears, in the second half. BRCC started chipping away and scored 12 points, in the third quarter.  At the end of the third quarter, the score was Angelina 58 and BRCC 24.  The Lady Bears continued to scratch and claw their way back into the game, in the fourth quarter.  They actually outscored Angelina 19 to 18, in the fourth.  In the second half, each team scored 31 points.  Thus if the Lady Bears could have played the way they played in the second half, it might have led to a different outcome.  The final score was Angelina 76 and BRCC 43.

This game showed Coach Lee, that her team has more room to improve but they are making key strives to get better. Desrael Schnyder and Tronayia Issac led the Lady Bears in the post. Chloe Walker took advantage of the minutes she played, and showed coach she could compete at this level.

The Lady Bears will be off till next Friday November 9, when they take on another tough opponent in Itawamba Community College at 5:30 pm, in the Bonne Sante Wellness Center.  This will be a doubleheader with the Men's team as they will play at 7:30 pm.
