In a battle between Bears, Southwest Mississippi edged Baton Rouge 58-53 on Saturday afternoon in the Bonne Sante Wellness Center. BRCC led at the end of the first three quarters, but turnovers plagued them once again down the stretch.
Leading 44-41 a few minutes into the fourth quarter, the Lady Bears turned the ball over twice in arow. Southwest capitalized with five straight points, giving the visitors a 46-44 lead. Baton Rouge would not lead again the rest of the game.
Bear Notes:
- Rhomyia Tate and Mikayla Crockett each scored 15 points to lead the Lady Bears in scoring. Crockett made five three pointers in the game.
- Pearl Jones had 10 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists.
- BRCC outrebounded Southwest 36-31.
- BRCC committed 23 turnovers to Southwest's ten turnovers.
Baton Rouge is on the road Monday night as they travel to Holmes Community College for a doubleheader with the men's team. The women's game will begin the action with a 6:00 pm start.
