Lady Bears Win Big in Opener

Lady Bears Win Big in Opener

Lady Bears started the season on Saturday afternoon with an 86-53 win over San Jacinto. Defensive pressure was the story from the beginning. The Lady Bears were able to apply pressure to the Gators' guards at all positions which allowed BRCC to jump out to a double-digit lead early in the first half. Coach Lee was pleased with the aggressiveness of the Lady Bears, "We played with energy and intensity at all positions. Denying passing lanes to their point guard made it difficult for San Jac to set up in a half court offense."

The Lady Bears were led by sophomore, guard Ashley Williams who scored 32 points, including 13-13 from the free throw line. Jasime Howard (11) and Rosa Bryant (10) were also in double figures for the Lady Bears. Overall, all nine players scored for BRCC with seven players notching 6 points or more.

Coach Lee thoughts after the season opener, "I am happy for the kids. They needed something good to happen." She continued, "if we play together and stay together on Monday night at Holmes, we have a good chance to come home 2-0."

Up next, the Lady Bears travel to Goodman, MS on Monday evening to face Holmes Community College at 6:00 pm.
