Lady Bears Softball drops a pair to Southwest Mississippi

In the battle of the Lady Bears, softball version, the Southwest Mississippi Lady Bears came out on top today.   Southwest Lady Bears defeated BRCC Lady Bears 3 to 1 in game one and 7 to 2, in game 2.

Game one was a good old fashion pitching duel. Jade Latham was the starting pitcher for Southwest Mississippi.  She pitched six inning, allowing only one run on two hits, while striking out eight.  Jade Latham got the victory for the Southwest Lady Bears.  Lacey Bonvillain was the starting pitcher for your BRCC Lady Bears.  Lacey pitched six innings, allowing three runs on six hits, while striking out four. Lacey Bonvillain got the loss for Baton Rouge.

Southwest got on the board first with one run in the bottom of the first.  Southwest added a run in the third and a run in the fourth to take a 3-0 lead after four innings.  Baton Rouge Lady Bears finally got on the board, in the seventh, with one run. Payge Hebert lead off with a homer to centerfield for the BRCC Lady Bears only run of the game.

Southwest outhit Baton Rouge 6 to 3.  Each team committed one error, in the game.

Game 1 Lady Bears Highlights:

Payge Hebert went 1 for 3 with 1RBI. (homered in seventh)

Allie Vincent went 1 for 2

Savanna Orgeron went 1 for 3

Lacey Bonvillain pitched 6 innings, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits, 4 strikeouts

 

In game two, Southwest Lady Bears used two big innings to open up a lead that the BRCC Lady Bears could not overcome. Southwest got on the board first with four runs in the first and two more runs, in the second, to take a 6 to 0 lead after two innings. BRCC Lady Bears would score one run in the fourth, when Haleigh Laylle would single to start the inning and would later score when Payge Hebert would ground out to the shortstop. Baton Rouge would add their second run in the fifth inning. BRCC would load the bases with back to back singles by Blayne Pence and Haleigh Laylle and a walk by Hallie Autin.  Southwest would walk Payge Hebert with the bases loading scoring Pence. That would be the only offense the BRCC Lady Bears could mustard.  Southwest Lady Bears added their final run in the fifth to take the 7 to 2 victory over the BRCC Lady Bears.

Baton Rouge outhit Southwest 6 to 3.  Each team committed two errors.

McNabb earned the victory for Southwest.  She pitched four innings, allowing one run on three hits while striking out one.  Bailey Duhon took the loss for Baton Rouge.  She pitched six innings, allowing seven runs on three hits, while striking out three.

Game 2: Lady Bears Highlights:

Haleigh Laylle went 2 for 3 with 1 run and 1BB

Payge Hebert went 1 for 3 with 2 RBI

Courtney Ortego went 1 for 3

Blayne Pence went 1 for 4 with 1 run

 

The BRCC Lady Bears return to action this Friday February 8 and Saturday February 9 as they compete in the Pearl River Wildcat Invitational.  Their first game will be on Friday at 12 pm versus Marion Military Institute. The complete weekend schedule can be found on our website: brccathletics.com
