Bears lose in Texas

It was an evenly matched contest tonight, in the Carl Parker Center, between the Baton Rouge Bears and the Lamar State Port Arthur Seahawks until midway through the second half when the Seahawks pulled away from the Bears on their way to an 88 to 80 victory. 

In the first half, the game saw five ties and eleven lead changes. Port Arthur's biggest lead, in the first half, was six points; 23-17 at 11:10. Baton Rouge's largest lead, of the first half, was 5; 38 to 33 with 1:40.  The Seahawks had their chance to go into the break tied but the shot rimmed out at the buzzer.  The Bears went into halftime with a 42 to 40 lead.   The Bears shot 60 % from the field and 80% from the free throw line in the first half, while the Seahawks struggled a bit shooting 48 % from the field.

Port Arthur would open the second half on a 10 to 8 run to tie the game at 50 with 15:24. After the game was tied at 52, the Seahawks would take advantage of defensive miscues and offensive struggles by the Bears, to build their largest lead of the game, 75 to 64 with 4:59 left to play.  The Bears could not mustard a comeback, as the Seahawks would seal the game by making 7 of 10 free throws down the stretch.

The Bears were outscored 48 to 38, in the second half.  They shot only 38 % from the field and were 3 for 11 from the three-point line, in the second half. Port Arthur improved their shooting, in the second half, shooting 51 % from the field and they connected on 4 of 8 three pointers.

Baton Rouge committed 16 turnovers compared to 12 for Port Arthur. They were also outrebounded 40 to 30.

With the victory, Lamar State Port Arthur improves to 3-3 while the Bears fall to 1-5, on the season.

The Bears were led in scoring by Ronald Pugh II who finished with 24 points, in which, 19 of those came in the first half.  The Seahawks' were led by Jamyus Jones who had 26 points on the night.

Ronald Pugh II led all Bears with 24 points. Ray had 19 first half points

Brenden Vessel added 13 points

Prince Campbell and Javon Brazile each scored 11 points

 

The Bears will be back in action Monday November 18, 2019 as there travel to Pearl River Mississippi to take part in the Wildcat Classic.  They will have a rematch against the host team, Pearl River at 8 pm.
