The Bears Basketball team opened the 2019-20 season, on the road friday night, in the Chick-fil-A Baytown Classic hosted by Lee College.  Baton Rouge defeated the Houston Gladiators, by the final score of 83 to 69. The Bears had their struggles, in the first half, as they were outscored by the Houston Gladiators 30 to 28.  In the second half, veterans Brenden Vessel and Darren Johnson  got hot from behind the arc to pace the Bears to the 83 to 69 victory.  The pair combined to score 27 of the Bears 55 second half points.  Baton Rouge also got keys buckets from freshman combo guard Trenton Payne who scored 11 points on the night.  The Bears will play the host school Lee College, in day two of the classic, tomorrow November 2 at 6 pm.

Bears Highlights:

Brenden Vessel led all Bears with 18 points

Darren Johnson added 14 points

Trenton Payne scored 11 points

Prince Campbell scored 9 points
