Bears split with #4 Jones County Bobcats

Bears split a pair of games today at Pete Goldsby Field against #4 nationally ranked Jones County Bobcats.  Baton Rouge takes game one 5 to 1 behind a great pitching performance by Joseph Battaglia III and some clutch hitting by Samuel Jarrell. Despite a good pitching outing by Brett Fisackerly, the Bears fall in game two by the final score of 6 to 3.

Jones would get on the board first with a run in the first to take a 1-0 lead. Baton Rouge would respond, in the second, with two runs to take the lead at 2-1. Samuel Jarrell would lead off the inning with a single, followed by a single by William Veillon and a sac bunt by Mitchel Lemoine would put Bears on second and third. Kendall Kennedy would walk to load the bases. Cody Crifasi would single to right field scoring Sam and Will. For the next five innings, it became a pitching duel with neither team able to scratch across a run.  The Bears offense would come alive in the bottom of the eighth when Samuel Jarrell would homer to left field driving in Lancon and Crawford.  That would be all the Bears would need as Joseph Battaglia III would shut down the Bobcats in order in the ninth to seal the 5 to 1 victory.

Joseph Battaglia III earned the complete game victory for the Bears.  He pitched nine innings allowing one run on eight hits while striking out two.

Jones County outhit Baton Rouge  8 to 6 in game one.  Each team committed one error.

Bears Game 1 Highlights:

Samuel Jarrell want 2 for 4 with 2 Runs and 3 RBIs- including homer in the eighth

William Veillon went 2 for 4 with 1 Run

Cody Crifasi went 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs

Joseph Battaglia III pitched a complete game allowing 1 run on 8 hits while striking out two.

 

In game two, the Bears would fall behind early and were unable to rally thus falling to #4 Jones County 6 to 3. The Bobcats would score one run in the first, second and fourth inning to take a 3 to 0 lead.  Baton Rouge would get on the board, in the fourth, with two runs but they still trailed 3 to 2. Cameron Crawford would lead off the fourth inning with a double to left field. Crawford would score on a William Veillon triple to left field. Will would score on a Thomas Garber single up the middle. Jones would add two more runs to take a 5 to 2 lead with a two run homer by G Lacey, in the sixth inning.   Baton Rouge would respond with a run, in the sixth.  Samuel Jarrell, who singled, would score on a Cameron Guitreau sac fly. Jones would add an insurance run in the seventh to take the 6 to 3 victory.

Baton Rouge outhit Jones 10 to 9 but committed two errors compared to one by Jones County.

Payton Harris got the victory for Jones County.  He pitched five innings allowing two runs on eight hits. Brett Fisackerly got the loss for Baton Rouge. Brett pitched seven innings allowing six runs on nine hits.

Bears Game 2 Highlights:

Donavon Murray went 2 for 4

Cameron Crawford went 3 for 4 with 1 Run

Samuel Jarrell went 2 for 3 with 1 Run

William Veillon went 1 for 3 with 1 run and 1RBI

Thomas Garber went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI

Cameron Guitreau went 1 for 2 with 1 RBI

 

The Bears will return to action tomorrow, March 7 as they will travel to Lamar University to take on the South Suburban Bulldogs at 5 pm.
