Bears split doubleheader with Hinds Eagles

The rainy weather could not stop the Baton Rouge Bears and the Hinds Eagles from playing a pair this afternoon at the Sports Force Park in Vicksburg, Mississippi. The Bears would split the day with Hinds taking game one by the final of 3 to 1 and the Bears winning the nightcap 6 to 5.

Hinds would get on the board first with a run in the second to take a 1-0 lead. The Bears would respond with a run in the third to tie the game. Cody Crifasi would lead off the inning with a walk, then advance to second on a bunt by Donavon Murray and score on a single by Luke Lancon. Hinds would score two runs in the sixth to take a 3 to 1 lead after six. The Bears would threaten in the seventh with two runners on but they could not push them across. The Bears fall in game one by the final score of 3 to 1.

 

Josh Banes got the victory for Hinds.  He pitched five and a third innings allowing one run on two hits while striking out four. Joseph Battaglia III got the loss for the Bears. He pitched six innings allowing three runs on six hits while striking out eight.

 

Bears Game 1 Highlights:

Luke Lancon went 1 for 2 with 1 RBI

Thomas Garber went 1 for 3

Kendall Kennedy went 1 for 3

Cody Crifasi went  1 for 1 with 1 BB

 

In game two, the Bears would score first with three runs, in the first. Luke Lancon would lead off with a single to right field and score on a sac fly by William Veillon. Bo Barrilleaux, who reached on error, would score on a Mitchel Lemoine single to centerfield. Kendall Kennedy would single to left field driving in Samuel Jarrell.  Hinds would respond, in the bottom of the first, with two runs. Bears still led 3 to 2 after one. Baton Rouge would add another run, in the second, to extend their lead to 4 to 2. Jordin Labruzza would double to left field and score on a Bo Barrilleaux single.

Hinds would add a run in the third and two runs in the fourth to take the lead over the Bears at 5 to 4. The Bears would rally, in the seventh, to score two runs to take a 6 to 5 lead. The inning would start with back to back walks by Jordin Labruzza and Bo Barrilleaux. Both would score on a William Veillon single to right field. Hinds would attempt a rally in the bottom of the seventh but Tanner Young and the Bears defense would stop the rally thus winning game two by the final score of 6 to 5.

Tanner Young would pitch two innings in relief for the Bears victory. Christopher Sagrera, Christopher Courville and Trevor Benoit all pitched in relief of Bears starter Tristin Cosby.

Garrett Ramsey got the loss for Hinds.  He pitched two innings, allowing two runs on one hit.

Bears Game 2 Highlights:

Luke Lancon went 2 for 4 with 1 Run

Jordin Labruzza went 2 for 3 with 1 Run

Bo Barrilleaux went 1 for 3 with 2 runs, 1 RBI and 1 BB

William Veillon went 1 for 3 with 3 RBIs

Mitchel Lemoine went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI

Kendall Kennedy went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI and 1 BB

 

The Bears will be back in action this Saturday February 23 as they travel to Decatur to take on Wallace State Hanceville in a doubleheader starting at 2 pm at the Clark/Gay Baseball complex.
