Baton Rouge, LA : Women's Basketball

The Baton Rouge Lady Bears Basketball team, started the second round of LCCAC games, this afternoon, against the Delgado Lady Dolphins, in the Bonne Sante Wellness Center. A strong second half would propel the Lady Bears to the 60 to 52 LCCAC victory over the Lady Dolphins.

In the first quarter, the game went back and forth between the Lady Bears and the Lady Dolphins. After the game was tied at 2 with 9:19 remaining, the Lady Bears would go on a 9-3 run to take a six point lead;11-5 with 3:18 remaining. Delgado would go on a  5-0 run to pull within one;11-10 with 1 minutes remaining. The first quarter would end with the Lady Bears holding on to a slim 13-10 lead over the Lady Dolphins.

In the second quarter, both teams were a bit sluggish with their offensive execution. The lead would go back and forth with the lead changing hands three times. Neither team, held a larger than three point lead. The game would be tied at 22 with a minute remaining. The Lady Dolphins would close out the quarter on a 5-0 run to take the 27 to 22 lead into the halftime. Delgado outscored Baton Rouge 17 to 9 in the quarter.

The Lady Bears came out with some fire, after halftime, as they quickly tied the game at 27 with 8:55 remaining. The Lady Bears would outscore the Lady Dolphins 21 to 11 to take a 43 to 38 lead into the fourth quarter. The Lady Bears increased their defensive pressure forcing the Lady Dolphins to be out of sync on the offensive end of the floor. The Lady Bears also fine tuned their offensive excusion. The highlight of the quarter was Carlasia Moore; as she would score the Lady Bears final 8 points of the quarter. 

In the fourth quarter, the Lady Dolphins would not go away quietly as they would tie the game up twice, in the first four minutes of play.  After the game was tied at 45 with 6:45 remaining, the Lady Bears would go on a 9-3 run to take a six point lead. The Lady Bears clamped down on defense again holding the Lady Dolphins to single possession on the offensive end of the floor. Keaira Gross and Carlasia Moore would score the Lady Bears final six points to seal the 60 to 52 victory this afternoon in the Bears Den.

Keaira Gross led the Lady Bears with 17 points. The Lady Bears had three athletes score in double figures. J. Singleton led the Lady Dolphins with 20 points. The Lady Dolphins had two student athletes score in double figures.

Lady Bears Highlights:

Keaira Gross led the Lady Bears with 17 points , 4 rebounds and 2 assist.

Carlasia Moore added 15 points 4 rebounds and 4 assists.

J'nyria Kelly scored 10 points with 17 rebounds.

With the victory the Lady Bears improved to 3-14, 2-2 while the Lady Dolphins fell to 4-12, 1-3 on the season.

The Lady Bears will continue their home stand with a rematch against the LSuE Lady Bengals on Wednesday February 14, 2024 at 5:30 pm in the Bonne Sante Wellness Center.
