Lady Bears fall to LSUE Lady Bengals in LCCAC play

Baton Rouge Lady Bears traveled to Eunice, Louisiana, this evening, to finish the first round of LCCAC against the LSUE Lady Bengals. The Lady Bears struggled to contain the high-powered offense of the Lady Bengals thus falling 80 to 67, in the HPRE Center.

In the first quarter, it was raining three pointers for the Lady Bengals. In the quarter, the Lady Bengals would connect on five three pointer enroute to a 21 to 11 first quarter lead. (LSUE would hit 8 three pointers total in the game.) The Lady Bears struggled to execute on the offensive end.  

In the second quarter, the Lady Bears would claw away at the Lady Bengals lead.  The Lady Bears would outscore the Lady Bengals 22 to 21. Alaina Cox came off the bench, for the Lady Bears, to deliver the much-needed spark the team needed. Cox would score seven points in the quarter. She would also give the Lady Bears the much-needed energy on the defensive end of the floor. The Lady Bears limited the Lady Bengals transition game during the quarter.  At the half, the Lady Bengals held a 42 to 33 lead over the Lady Bears.

Baton Rouge would struggle to get their offense going in the third quarter. LSUE would outscore Baton Rouge 22 to 14, in the quarter, to take a 64 to 47 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Baton Rouge would continue to fight and not lay down in the fourth quarter. With two minutes remaining, the Lady Bears would cut the Lady Bengals lead down to 7 points;74-67. LSUE would close out the game on a 6-0 run to seal the 80 to 67 victory.

 

J'nyria Kelly led the Lady Bears with 20 points. The Lady Bears had 4 student athletes score in double figures, J'nyria Kelly, Carlasia Moore, Akiyah Carnes, and Olivia Davis. Mary Leday led the Lady Bengals with 22 points. The Lady Bengals had 3 student athletes score in double figures.

Lady Bears Highlights:

J'nyria Kelly led the Lady Bears with 20 points and 18 rebounds.

Olivia Davis came off the bench to score 11 points with 4 rebounds.

Carlasia Moore and Akiyah Carnes both added 10 points.

 

With the loss the Lady Bears fell to 2-15, 1-2, while LSUE Lady Bengals improved to 4-19,3-0 on the season. LSUE still leads the overall series record with 23 wins and 18 losses over Baton Rouge.

The Lady Bears will return to the Bears Den this Saturday February 10, 2024, as they will start the second round of LCCAC play against the Delgado Lady Dolphins at 2 pm.
