New Orleans, LA : Women's Basketball

The Lady Bears basketball team traveled down to New Orleans, this evening, to start LCCAC play against the Delgado Lady Dolphins.  The Lady Bears fourth quarter comeback would fall short as the Lady Dolphins would defeat the Lady Bears 59 to 53 in the Michael Williamson Center.

In the first quarter, the game was a bit sloppy as both teams were trying to feel the other side out. In the first three minutes the game was tied twice and saw three lead changes. At the end of the first quarter, the Lady Dolphins held a 12-10 lead over the Lady Bears.

To begin the second quarter , the Lady Bears increased their defensive pressure and improved their offensive execution. The Lady Bears would tie the game twice in the first two minutes. After the game was tied at sixteen, the Lady Dolphins would go on a 13 to 4 run to take a 29 to 20 lead at the half.

In the third quarter, the Lady Bears continued to claw away at the Lady Dolphin's lead. The Lady Bears would pull within two points, 42-49 with 19.5 seconds to go in the quarter. The Dolphins would score the final four points of the quarter, to take a 46 to 40 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.

The Lady Bears did not back down and continued to fight and scratch their way back into the ballgame. The Lady Bears would tie the game at 51 with 5 minutes remaining on a bucket by Tamirecal Peters. The Lady Dolphins would close out the quarter and the game on a 8-2 run to defeat the Lady Bears 59 to 53.

J'Nyria Kelly led the Lady Bears with 16 points.  Judah Bedford led the Lady Dolphins with 17 points. 

With the loss the Lady Bears fell to 1-14, while the Lady Dolphins improved to 4-11 on the season. Baton Rouge still lead the overall series record with 33 wins and 11 losses over Delgado.

Lady Bears Highlights

J'Nyria Kelly led all Lady Bears with 16 points and 10 rebounds

Olivia Davis added 11 points and 5 rebounds.

Akiyah Carnes and Tamirecal Peters each had 6 points.

The Lady Bears will be back in action this Saturday February 3, 2024 as they host the Southern Shreveport Lady Jags at 2 pm in the Bonne Sante Wellness Center.
