The Baton Rouge Lady Bears could not shake off a sluggish first half, tonight in the Bears Den. The East Central Community College Lady Warriors would defeat the Baton Rouge Lady Bears by the final score of 76-45.

In the first quarter, the Lady Bears did not come out with consistent effort in the three phases of the game. The Lady Bears struggled to get shots to fall, and they struggled to contain the Lady Warriors on the defensive end.  The Lady Warriors took advantage of the Lady Bears' inconsistent play. The Lady Warriors would open the game on a 12-0 run, with 4:32 left in the quarter. The Lady Bears would finally get on the board, with 4:02 remaining, with a three pointer by Olivia Davis. The Lady Bears offensive woes led to a lack luster defensive performance as the Lady Warriors would close out the quarter on a 12-3 run to take a 24 to 6 lead into the second quarter.  Tamirecal Peters would be the only other Lady Bears to score, in the first quarter, as she would hit a three-pointer.

The second quarter was much of the same for the Lady Bears. The lack of consistency by the Lady Bears turned into easy transition buckets for the Lady Warriors. The Lady Warriors would outscore the Lady Bears 21 to 9, in the second quarter, to take a thirty-point lead into the half; 45-15.

The Lady Bears showed a little fight in the third quarter, as their offensive execution was a bit better, and they were able to contain the Lady Warriors on the defensive end. The Lady Bears would outscore the Lady Warriors 18 to 10, in the third quarter. The Lady Bears were fueled by Akiyah Carnes who scored 8 points in the quarter.  After three quarters, the Lady Warriors led the Lady Bears 55 to 33.

East Central would regain their dominance, in the fourth quarter, as they would outscore Baton Rouge 21 to 12 on their way to a 76 to 45 victory.

The Lady Bears were led in scoring by Tamirecal Peters with 10 points. The Lady Warriors were led in scoring by Nikki Stanic with 20 points. The Lady Warriors had 4 student athletes score in double figures.

With the loss the Lady Bears fall to 1-8 while the Lady Warriors improve to 10-1 on the season. The Lady Warriors lead the overall series 5-1.

Lady Bear Highlights:

Tamirecal Peters led all Lady Bears with 10 points.

Olivia Davis added 9 points.

Akiyah Carnes scored 8 points.

 

The Lady Bears will finish out the Fall Semester with two road games. First. They will travel to Utica, Mississippi to take on Hinds Community College Lady Bulldogs this Saturday December 9, 2023 at 2 pm in J.D. Boyd Gym-Earl Joe Nelson Court.
