Lady Bears fall on the road

A poor second half dooms the Baton Rouge Lady Bears, as they lose their first game on the road, 79 to 45 to the Bishop State Lady Wildcats tonight in the Fredericka G Evans Cultural Center.

In the first quarter, the Lady Bears were able to handle the Lady Wildcats pressure and controlled the boards. The game was tied three times, in the first quarter. After the game was tied at 13 with 2:35; left in the quarter, the Lady Wildcats would end the quarter on a 9-1 run to take a 22 to 14 lead over the Lady Bears.

In the second quarter, the Lady Bears would hang around but could not put together that run to overtake the Lady Wildcats. Bishop Sate would outscore Baton Rouge 19 to 14 to take a 41 to 28 lead at the half.

The Lady Bears struggled offensively, in the third and fourth quarters, as they would be outscored 38 to 16. Bishop State would defeat Baton Rouge 79 to 45 this evening in Mobile.

 

Bishop State was led in scoring by Jamirica Robertson with 17 points. The Lady Wildcats had 3 student athletes score in double figures. The Lady Bears were led in scoring by J'nyria Kelly with 12 points.

 

With the loss, the Lady Bears drop to 0-3, while the Lady Wildcats improve to 2-0 on the season. Bishop State leads the overall series 6-5.

 

Lady Bear Highlights

J'nyria Kelly led all Lady Bears with a double double 12 points, and 11 rebounds.

Keaira Gross added 8 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assist and 2 steals.

Olivia Davis scored 6 points with 3 rebounds, and 1 steal.

 

The Lady Bears will continue their road swing when they travel to Decatur, Mississippi on Thursday November 16 to take on the East Central Lady Warriors at 5:30 pm.
