Lady Bear Basketball Signing Day!

The Lady Bears Basketball program had three young ladies sign scholarships to continue their academic and athletic career at four year institutions today. Tronayia Issac a forward from Lafayette, Louisiana, Verd Fontaine, a center from the Commonwealth of Dominica and Alanna Donaldson, a guard from New Orleans, Louisiana all signed to play at the University of Mobile. The University of Mobile is an NAIA school in Mobile, Alabama that competes in the Southern States conference.

 

Tronayia Issac started playing for the Lady Bears in 2018-19 season. During that season she played in 27 games as a forward/post. She finished her freshman campaign with 190 points, 97 rebounds, 25 assist, 21 steals and 4 blocks. During the 2019-2020 season, Nae did not play due to personal reason. She returned to the court in the 2020-21 season. During her sophomore year, she played in 19 games in the post. She scored 168 points with 104 rebounds, 26 assist, 28 steals and 7 blocks. Nae was named to the 2021 LCCAC All Conference second team.Due to COVID-19, she was granted an extra year of eligibility. During her final playing season at BRCC, Nae played in 25 games as a forward. She scored 196 points with 151 rebounds, 31 assist, 26 steals and 10 blocks. Nae was named to the 2022 LCCAC All Conference second team. Tronayia received her Associates of Science - General Science in the spring of 2022. Nae returned to BRCC this past season as Coach Lee's assistant coach. Tronayia has left her mark on the Lady Bears program as she leads all players in games played(71), 5th in games started (42), 6th in points scored (554), 5th in field goals made (225), 7th in field goals attempted (539), 7th in three pointers made (28), 6th in three pointers attempted (121), 2nd in rebounds (352), and 7th in block shots (21).  

Verd Fontaine started her Lady Bears career in 2021-2022. During that season, Verd played in 25 games, in which, she started 23 at center. She scored 68 points, with 133 rebounds, 11 assist, 13 steals and 9 blocks. Verd was a very raw young basketball player when she arrived from the Commonwealth of the Dominica but her consistent work ethic and the guidance of Coach Paula Lee, helped her blossomed into a great player during her second year at BRCC. During her sophomore campaign, she was named LCCAC All Defensive team.  Verd scored 99 points with 176 rebounds, 20 assist, 21 steals and 29 blocks. Verd was a member of back to back LCCAC conference championships. Verd leaves her mark in the Lady Bears record book as she is 4th in games played (51), 3rd in games started (48), 4th in rebounds (289), and 2nd in block shots (38).

 

Alanna Donaldson started her Lady Bears career in 2020-21.  She played and started in all 19 games as the Lady Bears point guard. She scored 223 points with 74 rebounds,70 assist and 58 steals. Alanna was named to the 2021 LCCAC All Confence First team and the All Defensive team. Due to COVID-19, she was granted an extra year of eligibility, thus in 2021-22 she had a redshirt freshman season.  Alanna played in 25 games where she started 24 as the Lady Bears point guard. She scored 317 points with 79 rebounds, 114 assist, 86 steals and 1 block. Alanna was named to the LCCAC conference first team and the All Defensive team. During her final season in 2022-23, at BRCC she played in 24 games where she started 23 at guard. Alanna scored 446 points with 111 rebounds,116 assist, 21 steals and 29 blocks. Alanna was named LCCAC 2023 player of the year and she was named to the first team all conference, as well as the All Defensive team.  She received her associate degree from BRCC, in the spring of 2023. Alanna was also a member of back to back LCCAC conference championships. Alanna has also left her mark in the Lady Bears record book. She is 2nd in games played (68), 1st in games started (66), 1st in points (986), 1st in field goals made (387), 1st in field goals attempted (866), 2nd in free throws made (191),2nd in free throw attempts. (265),5th in rebounds(264),1st in steals (203), and 1st in assist (300).

During Coach Paula Lee, tenure as Head Coach of the Lady Bears,  she has had twenty two student athletes move on to complete at the next level. In total, there has been twenty three student athletes from the Lady Bears program to complete at the next level.

 

Head Coach Paula Lee is very proud of these young ladies and is looking forward to watching their continued growth on the court, as well as their success, in this next chapter of their lives.
