Lady Bears Win 2 in a Row !

Monday January 13, 2020: Women's Basketball

Baton Rouge, LA

It was the tale of two halves tonight for the Lady Bears Basketball team.  In the first half the Lady Bears struggled to settle down on offense and execute the game plan, while Bishop State was firing on all cylinders.  The second half was a reversal of fortune.  The Lady Bears came out aggressive and dominated Bishop State enroute to the 61 to 58 second half comeback victory tonight in the Bonne Santé Wellness Center.

The Lady Bears would jump out to a quick 7 to 1 lead after two minutes of play.  But Bishop State would settle down and force the Lady Bears into some quick shots on offense.  They took advantage of some turnovers by the Lady Bears to score some transition buckets.  They also out rebounded the Lady Bears in the first half, leading to second chance opportunities.  Bishop State would close out the first quarter with a 13 to 6 run to take a 14 to 13 first quarter lead.  In the second quarter, Bishop State continued their aggressive defensive play forcing the Lady Bears to become rushed and out of sync on the offensive end.  Bishop State would go on a 16 to 2 run over the final five minutes of the second quarter to take a 40 to 27 halftime lead.

At the half, BRCC Head Coach Paula Lee encouraged her ladies to play with a bit more heart, passion and aggression.  The Lady Bears would open the third quarter on a 12 to 2 run over the first five minutes to pull within three points; 42-39.  Bishop State would struggle, in the third quarter, as they were outscored by the Lady Bears 22 to 4. At the end of the third quarter, the Lady Bears held a 49 to 44 lead.  In the fourth quarter, the game would be tied twice and there would be two lead changes.  The game was tied at 58 with 1:27 left to play. Britanae White would steal the ball from Bishop State and get fouled on the layup.  Britt would hit 1 of 2 free throws to give the Lady Bears the 59 to 58 lead. Britanae White would extend the Lady Bears lead to three with a floater in the lane with 32. 7 seconds left.  Bishop State had multiple opportunities with the clock winding down to tie the game but multiple shots and puts back were unsuccessful.  The Lady Bears would escape the Bears Den with the 61 to 58 second half comeback victory.

Baton Rouge outscore Bishop State 34 to 18 in the second half.

The Lady Bears were led in scoring by Antiesha Griffin with 15. Bishop State was led in scoring by Faith Williams who scored 14.
