Lady Bears Win !!

Saturday November 16, 2019: Women's Basketball

Baton Rouge, LA

The Baton Rouge Lady Bears clawed their way to victory, this afternoon, versus the Southern Arkansas University Tech Lady Rockets 83 to 77.

This afternoon's game had it all; runs, ties, leading changes, technical fouls and a wild ending.  The game saw six ties, and eight lead changes.  The SAU Tech Lady Rockets took advantage of some sloppy play by the Lady Bears to jump out to an early 13 to 6 lead, in the first quarter. But the Lady Bears would close out the quarter on a 9 to 1 run, which was capped off by a three pointer at the buzzer by Britanae White, to grab the 15 to 14 lead.

The second quarter was a back and forth affair between the two teams until the 2 minutes mark.  Before the two-minute mark the game was tied three times and no team would have a greater lead than four points.  At the two-minute mark, the Lady Bears went on a 7 to 3 run to take a 37 to 29 advantage heading into intermission.

In the third quarter, SAU Tech would outscore Baton Rouge 21 to 19, but the Lady Bears would hold on to a six-point lead; 56 to 50.

The fourth quarter is where the game got a bit wild and crazy. Throughout the quarter, the Lady Rockets kept inching closer and closer and at the 2-minute mark, due to some defensive miscues by the Lady Bears, they took a 72 to 71 lead.  The Lady Bears would tie the game at 72 with a free throw by Jennifer Carter.  SAU Tech would then go on a 5-0 run to take a 77 to 72 lead with 1:33 left to play.  The Lady Bears would rally and go on their own  5-0 run to tie the game at 77 with 38.8 left to go.   With the game tied at 77, a lose ball in the corner would be grabbed by the Lady Rockets but they would call a timeout that they didn't have which resulted in a technical foul.  Jennifer Carter would hit two free throws to break the tie and the Lady Bears would score the final 6 points to take the 83 to 77 victory.

Britanae White paced the Lady Bears with 30 points.  The Lady Bears had five student athletes in double figures. The Lady Rocket were led by De'Vena Smith with 26 points.
