Baton Rouge Lady Bears grab the 51 to 38 LCCAC conference victory this afternoon against the Delgado Lady Dolphins, in the Alario Center.
It was a back a forth first quarter between the Lady Bears and the Lady Dolphins. In the last five minutes of the quarter, the Lady Bears broke away and went on a 12 to 2 run to close the quarter and take a 17 to 7 lead.
The second quarter was a low scoring affair for both team. Neither team could find a rhythm on the offensive end. Delgado Lady Dolphins would outscored the Lady Bears 8 to 5 in the quarter but the Lady Bears held a 22 to 15 advantage at the half.
At halftime, Lady Bears Head Coach Paula Lee challenged her kids to fight and be more aggressive on defense. In the third quarter, the Lady Bears turned up the pressure on defense that help fuel their offense. Baton Rouge outscored Delgado 21 to 15, in the third quarter, to take a 16 point lead that the Lady Dolphins could not overcome. At the end of the third quarter, the Lady Bears led 43 to 30. The final score was Baton Rouge Lady Bears 51 and the Delgado Dolphins 38.
Kayla Watson led all Lady Bears with 13 points. Delgado Lady Dolphins were led by DanNecia Nora and Jakwann Ross both with nine points.
With the win, the Lady Bears improve to 12-14 and 5-3 in conference play. The Lady Dolphins fall to 5-18 and 1-7 in conference play.
Lady Bears Highlights:
Kayla Watson led all Lady Bears with 13 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals
Sydney Martin had 12 points and 6 rebounds
Desrael Schnyder added 8 points and 3 rebounds
The Lady Bears will conclude the 2018-2019 season on the road on Wednesday February 27 as they travel to Shreveport to take on the Southern Shreveport Lady Jags.
