Lady Bears fall to Lady Bengals

Wednedsay February 20, 2019: Women's Basketball

Baton Rouge, LA

The Baton Rouge Lady Bears and the LSUE Lady Bengals battled it out tonight in the Bonne Santé Wellness Center. The Lady Bengals would use a 19 to 2 fourth quarter run to seal the LCCAC conference victory by the final score of 85 to 64.  With the victory the LSUE Lady Bengals win the LCCAC conference title outright and will represent the conference next month at the region 23 tournament in Mississippi.

As always, it was a good old fashion battle between these two teams, in the first three quarters.  In the first quarter, the game was a back and forth affair with the game being tied twice. The Lady Bengals broke away a bit in the last three minutes, of the quarter, to take a 20 to 12 lead after one.  BRCC found a bit of momentum, in the second quarter, as they would outscore LSUE 15 to 13 but still trailed by six at half time; 33 to 27. In the first half, Baton Rouge struggled to block out allowing LSUE second chance opportunities. In the third quarter, the Lady Bears would turn up the defensive pressure and lock in on the offensive end to pull within eight points at the end of the quarter, 58 to 50. Unfortunately, the Lady Bears began the fourth quarter out of sync on offense, turning the ball over for consecutive possession, allowing the LSUE Lady Bengals some easy transition buckets.  LSUE built their lead to twenty-one point's mid-way through the fourth quarter and the Lady Bears could not overcome that deficient.

Ave Jones led LSUE with 14 points.  Kayla Watson and Desrael Schnyder combined for 48 points for the Lady Bears.

With the victory, the Lady Bengals improve to 16- 3 and 7-0 in conference play, while the Lady Bears fall to 11-15 and 4-3 on the season.

Before the game, we recognized our five sophomores for their hard work and dedication to the Lady Bears basketball program.  Those sophomores include Kayla Watson, Harlee Doucet, Mariah Jones, Sydney Martin and Jasmine Watson.

The Lady Bears will be back in action this Saturday as they travel to New Orleans to take on the Delgado Lady Dolphins at 2 pm in the Alario Center.
