Pearl River too much for Baton Rouge

The first half, of this afternoon region 23 contest, was a pretty even match up between the Baton Rouge Lady Bears and the Pearl River Lady Wildcats. Unfortunately, the second half was unkind for the Lady Bears as they were outscored 51 to 16, thus losing to Pearl River by the final score of 78 to 37.

 

Baton Rouge jumped out to a fast start taking an early 8 to 2 lead over Pearl River. The Lady Wildcats increased their defensive full court pressure causing the Lady Bears to commit some unforced turnovers which fueled the offense for Pearl River. Pearl River found their stroke from the feild, going on a 11 to 4 run the last seven minutes of the quarter to take a 13-12 lead, at the end of one.

 

Pearl River continued their hot hand scoring the first six points of the quarter to extend their lead to seven points at 19 to 12 with 6:30 remaining. The Lady Bears tied the game at 19 with key buckets by Tronayia Issac, Desreal Schnyder and Sydney Martin. The Lady Wildcats responded with an 8-2 run to close out the second quarter, led by two big three pointers by Gabby Brown. At the half, Pearl River led 27 to 21.

 

The third quarter was the Lady Bears demise.  Pearl River continued their aggressive defense which led to the Lady Bears being out of sync on offense. They could not get things going on that end of the floor, while Pearl River came out of halftime on fire from the perimeter hitting five three pointers. Pearl River scored 33 points,in the quarter, compared to 5 for the Lady Bears.  The Lady Wildcats would take a commanding 60 to 26 lead after three quarters which they would not relinquish. The final score was Pearl River 78 and Baton Rouge 37.

 

Pearl River shot 55% from the three point line, Gabby Brown was 6-8. Baton Rouge shot 18% from the three point line and 33% from the field for the game.

 

Baton Rouge was led in scoring by Desrael Schnyder with 14 points, while Pearl River was led by Gabby Brown with 20 points 

 

Pearl River improves to 10-4 while Baton Rouge  falls to 7-11. 

 

 Lady Bears Highlights:

Desrael Schnyder led all Lady Bears in scoring with 14 points.  She also had five rebounds and 2 steals.

Sydney Martin added 6 points

 

The Lady Bears will be back in action Wednesday January 30, when  LCCAC conference play begins. The Lady Bears will open conference play at 5:30 pm versus the LSUE Lady Bengals in the Bonne Sante Wellness Center on the BRCC Midcity Campus. It is BRCC faculty and staff night at the game, so everyone come out and support these young women.
