Lady Bears Lose a Heartbreaker

November 27, 2018: Women's Basketball

Bossier City, LA

Lady Bears lose a heartbreaker to Bossier Parish 63 to 62.

Baton Rouge came out a bit sluggish, in the first couple minutes of the first quarter, but put it all together to close out the quarter with a 21 to 17 lead. The second quarter was where the Lady Bears ran into some trouble. It started when Kayla Watson was in foul trouble and had to sit for most of the quarter. BRCC offensive was out of sync only scoring 6 points.  Bossier Parish took advantage of Baton Rouges' troubles to score 15 points to take a one point lead heading into the break; 32 to 31.

It was a reversal of fortunes, in the third quarter, as Bossier Parish struggled to score and Baton Rouge took advantage. The Lady Bears outscored the Lady Cavs 18 to 8, in the quarter, to take a 45 to 40 lead heading into the fourth.  That is when things got interesting.  Baton Rouge held the lead until the final 23.2 seconds. The Lady Bears were up 62 to 60; when Kayla Watson had a chance to extend their lead but missed two free throws.  Bossier Parish went down and was fouled on their procession. BPCC's Mo Bolden stepped up to the line, with an opportunity to tie the game but missed both free throws. BPCC Bre Shae Richardson got the rebound of  Bolden  second free throw miss. Her first put back attempt rimmed out but she was able to grab her own rebound and scored on the put back to tie the game.  Richardson was fouled on the shot. She went to the line to complete the three point play and give BPCC a one point lead over BRCC.  The Lady Bears had their chance with seven seconds but their shot was off the mark.  Bossier Parish escapes with a one point victory 63 to 62.

BRCC was led by Kayla Watson with 27 points. Bre Sha Richardson led Bossier Parish with 24 points. (17 of her 24 points were scored in the fourth quarter, including 5 for 5 from the free throw line.)

With the loss, Baton Rouge falls to 3-6 and Bossier Parish improves to 6-2 on the season.
