Lady Bears get a conference win over the Delgado Dolphins

Baton Rouge picks up a much need conference win over the Delgado Dolphins tonight in the Wellness Center 64 to 34.  Despite a first quarter deficient, of 10-12, that would be the only time the Lady Bears would trail in this match-up.  BRCC outscored Delgado 21 to 6 in the second quarter to take a commanding lead into halftime.  At the half, the score was Lady Bears 31 and Delgado 18. BRCC kept its foot on the gas pedal in the second half and did not let up both on the offensive nor defensive side of the ball. The Lady Bears outscored the Lady Dolphins in the second half 33 to 16.  Delgado was held to only 5 points in the third quarter and 11 points in the fourth quarter.  It was a total team effort for the bears.  All Lady Bears scored a least one point in tonight's game.  Even though Delgado had the Bears leading scoring, Celica Sterling frustrated all night long, other Lady Bears stepped their game up, to take some of the pressure off Celica.  One person in particular was Kayla Watson who led the Lady Bears with 21 points and 4 steals.  BRCC held a 57 to 36 edge on the boards and forced Delgado into 16 turnovers.  BRCC held Delgado to just 17 % shooting from the field.  Baton Rouge stole the ball a record 12 times from Delgado.

BRCC improves to a record of 8-13 and  3-2 in conference while Delgado falls to 4-15 and 2-2 in conference play.

Lady Bears Highlights:

Kayla Watson scored 21 points with 4 steals, 9 rebounds, 2 assist and 1 block.

Tremeeka Spikes added 14 points and 10 rebounds

Celica Sterling had 9 points, 3 assist, 2 steals and 4 rebounds

Aliyah Cooper scored 7 points with 14 rebounds.

Mariah Jones added 6 points, 5 assist and 4 rebounds.

The Lady Bears pick up another conference win, as their game on Saturday, versus Southern Shreveport as been forfeited by Southern Shreveport. Southern Shreveport has forfeited the rest of the games to all conference opponents.  The next time the Lady Bears will be in action will be next Wednesday February 21 at LSUE.
