Lady Bears lose a nail biter 64 to 63 to the Northwest Mississippi Lady Rangers

The Lady Bears lose a heartbreaker today, on the opening day of the Mississippi Delta Classic, to the Northwest Mississippi Lady Rangers 64 to 63.  BRCC came out on fire scoring the first 10 points of the game.  The Lady Rangers did not score their first points of the game until the 2:40 mark of the first quarter.  The first quarter score was Lady Bears 11 to the Lady Rangers 9 points.  In the second quarter the Lady Bears extended their led scoring 23 points to the Lady Rangers 12 Points.  At the half the Baton Rouge Lady Bears led the Northwest Mississippi Lady Rangers 34 to 21.  

The Lady Bears led for 38 minutes of the game, but were outscored in the second half 43 to 29 by the Lady Rangers.  The Lady Rangers shot 6-23 from the 3 point line, while the Lady Bears only took 6 three pointers making 1.  BRCC out rebounded Northwest Mississippi 48 to 42. Baton Rouge fought to stay ahead for the vast majority of the game.  The game was tied by Northwest Mississippi 61 to 61 with a 3 point shot by Emily Bush with 47 seconds left in the 4th quarter.  Baton Rouge took the led with 37 seconds, on a  lay-up,by Tremeeka Spikes, 63 to 61. The Lady Rangers tied the game with 15 seconds left on  a lay-up by Chrissah Shaw.  Baton Rouge called a timeout to set-up the last play.  Celcia Sterling missed a 3 point attempt and the ball was rebounded by the Lady Rangers.  With  5.2 seconds left, the Lady Bears fouled Ciara Pettis, which sent her to the foul line.  Ciara missed the first free throw but made the second,giving the Lady Rangers a one point led 64 to 63.  The Lady Bears fall to 0-6 on the year, while the Lady Rangers improve to 3-3.  

Lady Bears Highlights:

Celcia Sterling led the Lady Bears with 17 points, 8 rebounds, 1 Assist and 2 steals

Tremeeka Spikes scored 14 points and had 8 rebounds

Kayla Watson scored 10 points with 7 rebounds, 3 assist and 1 steal

Faith Williams scored 10 points with 6 rebounds

 

Tha Lady Bears return to action tomorrow, in Day 2 of the Mississippi Delta Classic, when they will play the host team MS Delta at 2:00 pm.
