Baton Rouge Community College defeated Southwest Mississippi Community College 68-57 on Saturday night and won the Region 23 Women's Basketball Tournament. The landmark win is the first regional championship for the Lady Bears.

BRCC had already secured an automatic berth in the NJCAA National Tournament in Salina, Kansas. The tournament is a single elimination format and runs from March 17-22. The Lady Bears will find out their opponent on Monday afternoon when the tournament bracket is revealed.

All five starters scored in double figures on Championship Saturday. Rosa Bryant led the way with 20 points; followed by Lanae Bickham with 14; Kasiney Williams scored 12; while Kaylynn Walker and Ashley Williams each contributed 11 points.

The team brought home the Championship plaque, but four Lady Bears earned individual honors. Kasiney Williams and Lanae Bickham were named to the All-Tournament Team for the stellar performances over the last three games.

Ashley Williams and Rosa Bryant were given All-Region honors for their performance throughout the season.
