Bears fall in regular season finale to Bossier Parish

Bossier City, LA: Softball

The Baton Rouge Bears traveled up I49 to Bossier City, Louisiana to finish out the regular season against the Bossier Parish Lady Cavs. The Bears would hold the lead in both games, this afternoon, but they could not contain the late rallies by the Lady Cavs thus they dropped a pair of games; 3-2 and 7-6.

Game One

It was a low scoring battle on the diamond, in game one, between the Bears and the Lady Cavs. The game would come down to the last play as they Lady Cavs would get that timely hit with runners on second and third to walk off with the 3-2 victory.

For the first three innings of the ball game both teams were held scoreless. The Bears would break through with two runs, in the top of the fourth inning. Kylee Dulyea and Eve Fruge' would lead off the inning with back to back singles. Essynce Wallace would pinch run for Dulyea and she would score when Molly Sistrunk would hit a sacrifice bunt. Mary Wicke would lay down another bunt which would score Fruge' for the Bears second run of the game.

The Lady Cavs would scratch across a run, in the bottom of the fourth inning, but they still trailed the Bears 2-1. The Lady Cavs would tie the game at two when B. Deleon would lead off with a double then P. Garcia would hit a double of her own, with two outs, to drive in Deleon to tie the game.

In the seventh, the Lady Cavs would hit back to back singles and they would move the runners up sixty feet via a sac bunt with two outs. M. Vestal would hit a single to left field to help the Lady Cavs walk off with the 3-2 victory.

Maddie Robinson started in the circle for the Bears and was credited with the loss. Robinson pitched 6.2 innings allowing 3 runs on 8 hits while walking 2 and striking out 1. M.LaRue started in the circle for the Lady Cavs and earned the victory. She pitched 7 innings allowing 2 runs on 7 hits while striking out 9.

Bossier Parish outhit Baton Rouge 8 to 7. Both teams committed one error in the game.

Bears Game One Highlights

Hannah Abshire went 2 for 4

Aubrie Shaw went 1 for 3

Kylee Dulyea went 1 for 2

Essynce Wallace had 1 run

Eve Fruge' went 2 for 3 with 1 run

Molly Sistrunk had 1 RBI

Mary Wicke had 1 RBI 

Kennedy Kelly went 1 for 3

 

Game Two

Despite a hot start by the Bears another late rally by the the Cavs would propel them  to the 7-6 victory over the Baton Rouge Bears, in game two of today's doubleheader.

The Bears would come out the gates on a mission as they would plate five runs,in the top of the first inning, to take an early 5-0 lead. Hannah Abshire would lead off with a walk which was followed by a bunt single by Aubrie Shaw.  Ashlyn Hebert would hit an infield single to load the bases with Bears. Kylee Dulyea would single to left field driving in Abshire. Eve Fruge' would hit a sacrifice fly in which Shaw would tag up and score on the play. Desi Robinson would hit a three run homer to right field to give the Bears the 5-0 advantage.

The Lady Cavs would get on the board with two, in the third inning, but they still trailed the Bears 5-2.  The Lady Cavs would erupt for five runs,in the bottom of the sixth inning, to take 7-5 lead over the Bears. The Bears would continue to fight as they would scratch across a run in the top of the seventh to pull within one run but it was not enough as the Lady Cavs would defeat the Bears 7-6. In the seventh inning, Hannah Abshire would lead off and reach on an error then Aubrie Shaw would reach via a single to centerfield. Both runners would move up sixty feet on a ground out by Ashlyn Hebert. Kylee Dulyea would ground out to the second basemen but Abshire would score on the play. The Lady Cavs would get a ground out by Molly Sistrunk to end the game and secure the comeback victory.

Ashton Duhon started in the circle for the Bears. Duhon pitched 4 innings allowing 1 run on 3 hits while walking two and striking out 1. Jennifer Fontenot ( 1.0 innings), Olivia Burns (0.2 innings) and Bailey Smith (0.1 innings) pitched in relief for the Bears. Bailey Smith was credited with the loss as she would give up 3 runs on 2 hits. Rylee Glenn started in the circle for the Lady Cavs. Peyton McCloskey earned the victory for the Lady Cavs.

Both team rallied seven hits in the game. The Lady Cavs committed one error in the ballgame.

 

Bears Game Two Highlights

Aubrie Shaw went 2 for 4 with 1 run.

Hannah Abshire had 2 runs.

Ashlyn Hebert went 1 for 4 with 1 run.

Kylee Dulyea went 2 for 4 with 1 run and 2 RBIs.

Eve Fruge' had 1 RBI.

Molly Sistrunk went 1 for 4.

Desi Robinson went 1 for 1 with 1 run, 3 RBIs and a HR.

 

With the pair of losses the Bears fell to 24-24 while Bossier Parish improved to 38-12-1 on the season.

 

With the pair of losses today, the Bears 2024 season has come to an end. This season was full of first and big things are ahead for the Bears Softball program.
