#8 LSUE Lady Bengals sweep Bears

The Baton Rouge Bears and the #8 LSUE Lady Bengals squared off on the Diamond this afternoon for their 55th and 56th all time meeting. The LSUE Lady Bengals would use a solid pitching performance, in game one, and some clutch hitting, in game two, to sweep the Bears 3-0 and 10-3.

Game One

The Baton Rouge Bears struggled to make an adjustment at the plate while the LSUE Lady Bengals would squeak out just enough offense to defeat the Bears 3-0, in the first game of today's doubleheader at Lady Bengals Field.

The Lady Bengals would open the third inning by reaching third base via a Bear's error. They would then hit a sac fly to drive in their first run of the ball game to take the early 1-0 lead. The Lady Bengals would scratch across another run, in the fourth inning, to take the 2-0 lead. LSUE would score another run, in the fifth inning, to increase their lead to 3-0.

Through six innings the Lady Bengal starting pitcher R. Rios would face the minimum number of batters and had a perfect game going. The Bears would break up the perfect game when Eve Fruge' would single to right field in the top of the seventh inning. Unfortunately the Bears would get a strikeout, a fly out and be caught trying to steal to end the game and secure the Lady Bengals 3-0 victory.

Jennifer Fontenot started in the circle for the Bears and took the loss. Fontenot pitched 5.1 innings allowing 3 runs (1 earned ) on 3 hits while walking 2. Olivia Burns pitched .2 innings in relief for the Bears.  R. Rios started in the circle for the Lady Bengals and was credited with the victory. She pitched 7 innings allowing 0 runs on 1 hit while striking out 6.

LSUE outhit Baton Rouge 4 to 1. The Bears committed three errors in the ballgame.

Eve Fruge' went 1 for 3

 

Game Two

The Bears would jump out to an early lead but they could not contain the high powered offense of the Lady Bengals as they fell 10-3, in game two of today's doubleheader in Eunice.

The Lady Bengals would get on the board first with a run, in the bottom of the first inning, to take the early lead.

The Bears would score three runs, in the top of the second inning,  to take an 3- 1 advantage over the Lady Bengals.  Kylee Dulyea would lead off the second inning with a single up the middle. Eve Fruge' would hit an infield single moving Dulyea to second. Laine Sullivan would reach on an error to load the bases full of Bears. Lily Wainwright would be hit by a pitch scoring Dulyea for the Bears first run of the game. Desi Robinson would double to centerfield driving in Fruge' and Sullivan.

The Lady Bengals would plate three, in the fourth inning, to take the 4-3 lead. LSUE would tact on four more runs, in the fifth inning, and two more runs, in the sixth inning, to cap off the 10-3 victory over the Bears.

Maddie Robinson started in the circle for the Bears and was credited with the loss. Robinson pitched 4.2 innings allowing 8 runs on 9 hits while walking 1. Jennifer Fontenot and Bailey Smith pitched in relief for the Bears. M. Howell stated in the circle for the Lady Bengals and was credited with the victory. She pitched 4 innings allowing 3 runs on 5 hits while walking 1 and striking out 2.

LSUE outhit Baton Rouge 14 to 7. The Lady Bengals committed two errors in the ball game.

Bears Game Two Highlights:

Desi Robinson went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs.

Meaux Carroll went 1 for 1.

Kylee Dulyea went 1 for 4 with 1 run.

Eve Fruge' went 2 for 3 with 1 run

Keesley Ross went 1 for 3

Laine Sullivan had 1 run.

Lily Wainwright had 1 RBI.

 

With the losses the Bears fell to 19-19 while the Lady Bengals improved to 27-7 on the season. 

 

The Bears will travel to Crowley, Louisiana on Wednesday April 3 to take on the John Melvin University Millers in a doubleheader starting at 1 pm.
